Buell writes the particulars as follows: “Hiram was here helping me wait on Charley. The Odd Fel lows had employed him for a ! nurse. Thursday morning he got | up at 4 o’clock. He and I sit up j and talked about halt an hour. I ; had sit up all night and lie told me to go and lie down. Ho was eungbing when he got up and does caugh every morning and was in the habit of taking a dram of whiskey every morning. Charley got to tasting of the whiskey when we were out of the room, so Hiram had it moved into another room. After I had lain down, he took the lamp and went into the other I room to take a dram of the whis key, but got hold of the wrong bottle and drank some carbolic acid. He came to my room at once and took me into the room and showed me what he had done. He bnly spoke two words. I told him to sit down. I gayc him a cup of milk and he drank it. H}7 this time the folJ<s were up and Champlin went tor the doctor. Hired hands went for his folks. I took him in my arms and car Tied'him to the sofa. 1 held him while the others poured milk, lard and other stuff down him, but he only lived between a half and three quarters of an hour. His wife and Bridwell came an hour alter lie a Tliram was the most pitiful looking man I ever saw when he came and woke me up and took me h}T the hand and led me into the room and showed me what he had done. 1 never felt so badly in my life. The dajr before and even that morning, ho was in a big "’ay laughing and talking, lie was hurried Thursday afternoon.” Thus ends the career of a noble man. Mr. Editor:—Please allow mo I to imform y<>u my reasons tor not1 ! meeting my appointment last J Sunday at Denver. It was on account ot my inability, physically, and not on account of police in terference nor the recanting of Mr. Young for such failures were not anticipated—not in the least. While I hold Mr. Young as a man among the greatest. I will say that he never said anything about being baptised by nie during my second trip to his city. I was simply going, concurable, to the request of the public, and not Mr. Young alone, yet the hospitality that he exhibited toward mo was i m mensely. I further say that the people ot Denver treated me nicely. Im perfection calls for a few failures men. Truly Yours, Jas. A. Watkins. among all In Memory of Mrs. M. E.
