_ Dps %xt Citijpu. J. C. MORRILL, EDITOR. DES ARC, ARKANSAS : WEDNESDAY-••• . NOVEMBER 20, 1861, Close of the Seventh Volume of the Citizen—Our Future, &c. With the present number we close the Seventh Volume of the Des Arc , Citi zen. Since the 1st of June last we have lost over five hundred dollars in sustaining and keeping the paper up. We determined to close the volume, in hope that our pa trons would come to our aid. But in this we have been disappointed, except in, com paratively, few instances. The high price of paper and all the ^hiaterial necessary to carry on a Printing Office, compels us to adopt the following invariable rules: 1. No paper will be sent from our office, hereafter, unless paid for in advance. The names of all who are in arrears will be stricken from our Fist. 2. Transient advertising must be paid for in advance. 3. All Job Work must be paid for on delivery. The first number of the Sth vol ume of the Citizen will be issued on Wednesday the 4th of December. Our telegraphic Extras will be continued as heretofore. -♦ « «. Congressional Elections.—The returns from this District indicate the election of A. H. Garland. G. D. Royston and F. I. Batson are elected in their respective Districts. The friends of both Patterson and Hanley, in the Eastern District, claim a triumph. —• (2^-The Oxford (Miss.) Intelligencer says: It is highly probable that the Legislature will, in a few days, pass a law touching the heart less speculators in salt throughout our State. We would like to see the State seal put upon the door of every salt speculator in the land, and an agent put at each door to sell the article at a fair price. Dealers here are demanding $12.50 per sack. —--■ What Virginiv has done.—The Rich mond Dispatch says: She has given herself for the battle ground . of one and all; she has furnished nearly every pound of powder and most of the heavy ordi nance that have been used between the Poto mac and the Gulf of Mexico; she ha« seventy five thousand men in the field. In this connec tion we may add that the labors of her Gover- , nor in eominon cause has been incessant. He has given himself, his time, his talents and his energies without stint to the glorious work. We are petsuaded that the Confederate Gov- ! ernment can find no fault with Virginia nor ] with her Governor, but will promptly acknowl- * edge that they have been in front rank and behind no other in toils, struggles, and sacri fices. DIED : In Centre township, on the Gth of October, j Miss Martha Ann Rives, in the 19th year ; of uer age. I There is a solace in the death of the young c and pure. They go hence to the land ethereal, s and thus are freed from the ills and perplexi- * ties of tbis^ur transient life. We deeply sympathise with the family of the deceased. ■ But a few short months elapsed between the death of the father and daughter. Though the hand of a til i ct ion has visited their house hold, may they bow in humble submission to the will of Him “whose ways are not as our ways.” * “In this, our life, a transient life regard, „ Ours is a state of trial—not reward.” jyj # * « # « # Take Particular Notice.
