Factors to be considered in the
Planning of a Heal.
1. Do not attempt too elaborate
a meal. (A swimmer in learning to
swim stays close to tb e bank and
doesn't start out three miles from
land.)
2. Consider cost.
3 Watch that the table is not
over-crowded. Too many side dishes
give a cluttered appearance.
4. Think of the season in choos
ing foods, and use foods that are
available or ripened at that period.
5. A table should present a pic
ture. Nothing should be set slant
wise, but should present long paral
lel lines.
6. Avoid dtab u ninteresting
meals.
7. Never let flavor suffer on ac
count of your art. Should taste bet
ter than it looks.
8. Avoid repeating flavors as
Tomato Preserves all in the same
Tomato Soup, Tomato Salad, and
Tomatoe Preserves all In the same
meal.
9. In planning meals see that
not all the foods have to be tended
to at once, but prepare part of the
meal earlier in the day and avoid
I rushing to get the foods ready to
Berve.
BAKERY and MEAT MARKET
Good baking and fresh
meat help to make you
comfortable and content

UNJUST RESULTS
OF MONEY PLANS
Unsound Currency Gives Sellers
Unfair Advantage Over the
Producers.
EXPERT EXPLAINS MONEY
Points Out Dangers in So-Called
Energy Dollars—Other
Plans Exposed.
Bow demagogues are using falsa
doctrines of so called "sound money”
to give themselves or the class they
represent unfair .dvantages at the
expense of real producers Is exposed
la tha Journal of the American Bank
ers Association by H. Parker Willis,
expert on the money question.
'There la no subject In whose name
mors crimes against truth have been
committed than that of ‘sound cur
rency/” Mr Willis says. “The term
Is always resorted to by demagogues.
At the present moment there seem*
to be a danger that It will be used
by a potential presidential candidate
aa repiesenting the 'platform' upon
which he expects to run. There Is
no question that more noarly and di
rectly touches the Immediate welfare
of every class In the community.”
Purpose of Money
Primary functions of money and
currency, It Is explained, are to serve
aa a means of exchanging goods ami
as a meant of measuring the value
of goods. Mr. Wlllij continues:
"Demagogues and those who are
disposed to mislead the public for
various ulterior reasons have suc
ceeded In disseminating an entirely
different view of the purpose of
money. Some of them contend that
the soundest or beet currency le that
which is so arranged as to briug
about a ‘fair’ redistribution of wealth.
Tbey want a constantly depreciating
currency—one which keeps playing
into the hands of the seller of goods,
by enabling him to count confidently
upon higher prices In terms of money
so that he pays the producer from
whom he has obtained them less and
less. IT IS A STRANGE THINO
THAT THIS KIND OF CURRENCY
IS OFTEN HIGHLY PRAISED OR
FAVORED BY THE PRODUCER
HIMSELF, NOTWITHSTANDING
THAT HE IS THE GREATEST SUF
FERER FROM IT."
Energy Currency
There le another popular view of
sound currency which alma to base
It upon “natural products" or "nat
ural forces"—usually It la true, sper-l
tying products or forces which have
been monopolised or can be con
trolled by the advocate of such cur
rency. Thus from time to time there
have been schemes to Issue a cur
rency based upon or protected by
farm products stored In warehouses
or occasionally representing “units of
energy" or horse power.
Tha rulers of Bovlet Russia at one
time attempted to Introduce a cur
rency representing “labor time,” each
man receiving a check representing
the number of hours of time he had
put in at work, while goods them
selves were to be valued In terms of
hours of production time Thus one
mao who put In an hour’s time In
street cleaning received the same
control over goods as he whe put In
an hour's time at eurgery. The
theory was that this kind of "sound”
currency enabled the “poor man” la
get a lr • t supply of goods.
“The trouble was that when those
who could perferm a certain kind of
labor were not paid In proportion to
their effort they stopped making
goods. So It was not very long In
Rusela before the sound currency
which was Issued In favor of the
poor man had brought It about that
the poor man could not buy anything
with the curfency. This was an un
fortunate kind of 'soundness' We
do not want something like It In the
United States today, yet very slml
lar proposals are now being made In
a good many quarters that ought to
know better," says Mr. Willie.
