The Massachusetts Democratic convention has declared for free coinage of silver. Denver mining men are perfect ing a machine to melt frozen plac er ground. It is meant for use in the lClondyko. Henry George, the single taxer, has been nominated by ihe United Democracy of Greater New \ork. Tammany don't like this nomina tion. New Jersey voters have just iiad an opportunity to give women the right of franchise ill school elections, and the result is four to one against. The yellow fever scare lias not abated in the least in the south. There can lie no doubt that it is spreading notwithstanding the rig id quarantine methods used. In Las Animas county the vote lor the successlul winner forplace of maid of honor representing that county, nt the Denver Festival ran above 300,000. Some competition there. Next Monday at Denver, the Supreme court will hear the mili tary poll tax case, and decide upon its constitutionality. He was a faithful follower of Mc- Kinley in the campaign last year and is now getting his reward. — Lamar Sparks. The business man of Denver paid little attention to Booth Tuck er, who came near leaving the state without locating a colony. The Gen. wanted Denver capital isls to loan the colonists money to buy land to start, on. California capitalists were ready to grant such requests, and although he favored tlie Arkansas valley, he realized the need of loans an d thought they should come from the st.ite where the colonies be came interested. Richard Kaapcke and party left yesterday for the Carriso gold fields in Baca county. They will do some hunting for game as well as for gold while away.—We have been asked several times “wheth er the death penalty could be im posed on the murderers ol William Green, William Kelley and Miguel Reveill?” As these crimes were committed in April, 189 G, before the law on capital punishment was repealed, they are being tried un der the old law, and if found guilty of murder in the first degree, the death penalty can be imposed. We arc informed that Gov. Adams lias stated that he would not in terfere in any way with the sen tences imposed on tiiese men by the court. —Trinidad News. The State Federation ol Labor in session at Bloomington has add ed its indorsement to the agitation for the establishment of postal savings bank. Local unions in large numbers have indorsed the movement. Other state ami national conventions as they meet should also take action along the same line. Especially should the American Federation of Labor, which meets in December, take a strong position in favor of postal savings banks. The demand for their establishment should be re iterated so persistently that con gress cannot longer ignore the subject. The vote upon the a doption of the postal savings bank resolutions at Bloomington was unanimous, which indicates the general sentiment ol workingmen on the subject.—Chicago Record. The democrats have two men in the field in whom they can take pride. John A. Mr. Gordon will make an ideal judge.—Our candidate lor district attorney also resides in Trinidad, and is one of the leading members of the bar in tint city. His popularity is attested by tho fact that no other candidate was presented to the convention. Mr. McChesnev was for a number of years a law partner ol Orlando Hitt., the best prosecuting attorney this district ever had. Mr. Mc- Chesney is tall, dignified, quiet in manner and m the prime of life. No ill words cau be said ot him and his administration of the office will be conducted on business principles, without fear and with out favor. He is the man for the office.—Walsenburg Cactus.
