Les Jones and wife brought* Mrs. Burt McGowan to Spring .field Tuesday where she took the mail auto for Lamar to re ceive medical treatment. The Democrat is to be con gratulated on last week’s issue. It was void of cuss words, there were no disppptic eruptions of any kind, and in a general way it was clean and respectable. May it be hoped that there lias been a regeneration, and that the* Democrat may continue stead fast in the good cause. Charley Vogel and wife of Car rizo, were in town the first of the week, Mrs. Vogel going on to Lamar for a couple of weeks’ vis it. Mr. Vogel gave the Herald a pleasant call, and of course old times was a natural topic. Mr. Vogel’s first vote was for Abraham Lincoln, and his last vote would have been for Wood-' row T Wilson had he been able to get to the polls. He believes with the editor that Lincoln was one of the great men of the Tyorld, and that Woodrow Wilson is another. Mr. Vogel is a Dem ocrat of the progressive order, and along with the editor thinks also that the New York World is one of the most ably edited pa pers in the United States. Health permitting, it is hoped by his host of friends here, that Mr. Vogel and wife will make their visits to Springfield more frequent in the future than they have in recent years of the past. Lamport. • Wesley Alcorn is b.ick. He says California is no piace for a poor man. Anderson of the Cimarron, was up this way last week. ’ The church organization at ' Lamport has been transferred to the Wentworth church., The sand-hill gyp road to Elk hart is nearly completed Charley Sitten went to see the jlentist at Elkhart last week. He lost seven teeth by his throw from his horse. The mail gets in much sooner since being brought by auto to Stonington. Greer Sitten says he wants to engage harvest hands for bis coming wheat crop. i. * ' A restaurant and store maybe put up on the Elkhart road near Lamport in the nea - future. The letting of the mail route is ’ creating quite an interest. James Merriott is in very bad " health in Missouri. H. G. Greer is hauling hay from Levi Stafford’s.
