Vesty Bray was a business viator at Lamar last Saturday. It may not rain again for a l liousanil years; so hold on to the moisture you’ve got. Roy Denney had a relapse of .measles the first of the week and Dr. Verity was called, but is now O. K. John Rolphs proved up before Com. Speckmann Monday, using) Dillard Collins and C, A. Hughes j as witnesses. Decoration day was largely attended ut Blaine, among those present being Mr. and Mrs. W. M; Stewart of Springfield. A private note from Mary and the lamb says: you bet, we’re not done laughing yet, at the way we made that teacher sweat. The wheat harvest this year promises to be the richest picking for many years past, which will be a pood thing for a whole lot of Baca county people. Miss Mertie Stephenson of the Grandview country made final proof on her claim the 7th inst. before S. E. Speckmann, using W. H. Stephenson and H. S. Manlove as witnesses. Chas Hughes of Butcher, want ed the land just bad enough to bring Dillard Collins and John Rolphs along to Springfield to help him get it. Com. •peckmann. Monday. At a dinner given in honor of assessor Brown’s birthday Sun day, there were present David Konkel and wife and their daugh ter Carrie, W. A. Fields, H. A. Green, Geo. Cramb, and Jake. Lasley. A sumptuous dinner was partaken of, and an enjoyable time was reported by those pres ent. After Mary and her lamb got through with the mutton-eating teacher they trotted off to the Butcher country and rounded up Chas. A. Hughes, who came in, the first of the week and put down the dough for another year’s baking. Thanks to Mary and her lamb, thanks to C. A. Hughes. In that fair procession an in spiring contrast with ten years ago would be the auto mail cars, as loaded now with mail at their best, and the hacks, buggies, and imrsebackers that carried the mail ter. years ago. At that time there was a hack to Lamar, a buggy to Stonington, and a buggy or horsebacker to Carrizo. After having consumed several yards of space and about a gal-1 lon of ink, to say nothing of the sleep lie must have lost, in a vain effort to put through a county fair, the Herald man has finally gotten onto the right track and is now pulling for a tem porary county fair association. Although Editor Konkel’s name is not on the petition, we know iie is in sympathy with it, and now Bince someone has shown him the right track we feel sure his efforts in the direc tion of a county fair will not be, without results. We’re withl you brother. But why make it* temporary?—Artesia Call. i It was the many valued con tribute™ to the Herald and its efficient corps of correstwndents that pointed out the right track —and used the ink and space. The sleep we lost was over wor ry at the slowness of oar con tent pot aries to join in and help to find the way; bat now that the right way lies been found, the necessity for united effort fa greater than ever. I SPRINGFIELD HERALD | ALL FOR $1.76 § =oc=|o=a= ■■■ iftt? —»a»^ 1 TO THE PUBLIC awes,.,, f THIS Company has purchased of the Horn Hardware and Furniture Company their entire stock of Hardware and Furniture, which business has been in charge of Mr. Her schel Horn, and conducted at 117 South Main street. All of this stock will promptly-be moved to our quarters at 222 North Main street, where we are re modeling our brick storeroom, which, when completed, will give us seven thousaud (7000) square feet of i ground floor space, the largest of any store in Lamar, and probably the most modern between Hutchinson 1 and Pueblo. U* Orders have been placed for two Carloads of House Furnishings, which, together with the Horn stock, will give our customers a complete assortment to select from—in fact, the most up-to-date line in the Arkansas^Valley Mr. Hersciud Horn, as soon os actual transfer is made, becomes assocint | ed with this Company, and will join with the rest of its employes in endeav- , C oring lo give to iis customers t lie class of service and attention which has gfc characterized this Company in the past. w# Our patrons, which already include the great “Value Observing Public" of Prow ers, Bent, Baca and Kiowa Counties, will please bear in mind that our going so exten sively into the General Hardware and House Furnishing business will in no wise cause us to loosen the tight grip we have gained in the Lumber and Building Material and Coal U business, and we will continue to carry the same large "Ready to Serve" stock which we have ip the past and at the same prices which has-brought us business from the # Texas and Oklahopna borders. H To our town patrons, we would respectfully call attention that while “It’s a litUe further, it will pay || you to walk.” To arrive at this cc.r.clusipn yourt-elf only requires a few figures and a little reasoning: II First; We pay no rent, Second; We do not have to make returns on high- W priced real estate, H Third; We operate nine places of business, and buy II for spot cash in large quantities at the lowest || market price. II Fourth: Our motto is “Volume of Business," not U g “Volume of Profit." -- 8 Buyers of Wire, Field and Poultry Fence and Corrugated Iron will please remember we buy this stock in car lots and are thus enaolcd to beat nil competition. y U>,S SKX!K We carry a large and complete stock of Paints.
