Danger Pointed Out.
During a clasß in construction work
In one of the primary grades oi the
public school, the teacher endeavorod
to make the children understand that
they should bo careful in handling the
scissors they had to use. Shortly after
that Joey, a little chap of six, noticed
the little girl across from him stand
ing on ono foot beside her desk with
the sharp cr.d of the scissors pointing
directly toward her eye. With all due
authority he called out: "Look out!
You better watch out or you'll be wear
In' a wooden eyo."
Gladstone's One Pun.
Much interest and amusement nas
been caused by Mrs. Drew's revival in
the London Cornhill of Gladstone's
rhyme on the wedding of the captain
and the cook of the convalescent home.
It is not generally known that Glad
stone also once in his life made a
pun. When Blondin appeared at the
Crystal palace, he went to see the ac
robat, and remarked that the perform
ance was very interesting to a chan
cellor of the exchequer as an exam
ple of balancing.
Wise Practice of the Incas.
The Incas, ancient rulers of Peru,
wore one of the earliest authentic ex
amples of the high eugenic develop
ment of the human race Their sys
tem of choosing each year the finest
physical specimens of young woman
hood from all classes to become
"brides of the sun,’’ or wives of the
ruler, having quite an opposite effect
to that of the limited and unfortunate
matrimouial customs of present day
royalty. ,
Technical Difficulty.
At one of the rehearsals of a play
the "supers" had to go up to an altar
and kneel before it. After rehearsing
five or six times the stage manager
lost his temper with them and shout
ed: "No, no! Where are your genu
flexions?" The chief "super" scratched
his head with a puzzled expression on
his face. "Well, sir.'' he said, apolo
getically, “we haven't had them from
the property master!"
Sped of Samoa.
Samoa, when he first saw the is
lands. appeared to Stevenson far less
beautiful than the Marquesas or Ta
hiti. He was not specially attracted
by the people, except for their cour
tesy. Yet the island grew upon his
fancy so quickly that in less than a
month from his first sight of the har
bor of Apia he decided to make his
home in Samoa.

Sometimes it seems to us that if
there had been automobile horns and
things fiO years ago, the author of

have been lusplred to write something
