Miss Cornelia Hamilton, one of our teachers, is quite ill at the home of her uncle, William Homedew. E. C. Lucas, of Greeley, was in town this week, contracting hay and alfalfa for the St. Louis market. Invitations are out for a Thanksgiv ing party at the home of Miss Marie Clayton Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Kelsey are spend- W)g their first Thanksgiving with Mr. Kelsey’s parents af Sterling. Mr. and Mrs. 8. E. Stevenson enter tained a party of young girls and boys at their home Friday evening. A proposition is on hand to extend the sewer in the west part of town, so as to include the Easton houses. The Standard Bearers will meet with Mrs. A. J. Waller Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Charles Rook will be leader. E. C. Mussey, of Sedgwick, was in town Saturday with a wagon load of Hubbard squash of his own raising. Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Babcock will en tertain some of their friends with a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving day. The buyer for Petersen’s Store has been on the Eastern Market buying Up-To-Date goods for now and Xmas. The fine weather for the past week has enabled the contractors and build ‘ers to close up most of their outside work. Mr. L. W. Eversman is preparing the plans for a new residence. As this is to be his home, we will expect some thing nice. . The Sunday School of the Congrega al church is preparing a Christmas tata to be given in the church on Christmas eve. Howard Yates, of Gallatin, Mo., has rented a farm west of Ovid, and ex pects his stock and other effects to ar rive this week. Miss Ethel Easton has arrived from Gallatin, Mo., and is looking after her father’s business, who is detained at his former home by sickness. Engineer Thistle is running a line from the courthouse block to the County High School building, an ex tension of the steam heating system. Mark Burke has been missing from his usual haunts for several days. This will happen once too often and we may have something to say in explanation. Mr. D. B. Morgan was in town Mon day, being on his way to Greeley, where he has secured a house near the State Normal, and will remove his ‘family at once. Ball of Genoa, Nebraska, a brother-in-law of E. C. County Treasurer Carlson will be compelled to publish the delinquent tax list next week. If you have overlooked paying your taxes for the past year, now is a good time to save the pub licity and expense. The invitation Thanksgiving dance at the. opera house Wednesday night was well attended and a good time was had by all who attended. A dainty luncheon was served at the Merchants Cafe after the dance. Mr. H. L. Randall returned Friday from his trip to Falls City and other points in Nebraska. Mr. Randall is an old pioneer of Nebraska and returns occasionally to renew friendships and talk it over with old acquaintances. W. H. Morris, the contractor and builder who has been doing the building for Mr. Easton, has concluded to re main in Julesburg and build a home. Mr. Wertz is the junior 'member of the firm of Wertz & John !son and also junior member of the firm of Wertz Bros., and is vice-president of ‘the Commercial bank of this place. ;John came here in the early 90’s and ‘has made a success of every enterprise ‘ ‘he has taken hold of, and is now pre paring to retire from active business, ‘having enough of this world’s goods to live on the balance of his days. Mr. Wertz is a member of both the Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges of this place and also belongs to the highor: degree in Masonry, being a member of | Royal Arch and Knight Templars of North Platte, and of the Shrine, be longing to Tangier Temple, Omaha. | Miss Francoeur came here with her parents about a year ago and has made a host of friends, is a charming young lady, and Mr. Wertz can well feel proud that he won this fair bride. ~ Mr. and Mrs. Wertz expect to spend the winter in California and most of ‘next vear traveling, as they are plan ning to go te Furope before settling down.
