Ellsworth, Kansas, Sunday even
ing.
Dr. H. C. Homer, W. S. Moore

were land buyers, were in town
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McCrumb,
left for Canon City Colorado last
Sunday, where they go to visit
their daughter, find R. 8., for a
few weeks. The Times predicts
for Me a grand good time, for
Me is sure to have it if any one
does.
V/m. Henderson, of Kit Car
son, was in town Saturday, and
with the assistance of Ivan Groff,
inspected two car loads of cattle
that were to be shippedito the K.

J. N. Hollenbaugh. H. C. Nel
son. Chas. Norman. Ja3. Cahill
and several others of our citi
zens attended the Good Roads
meeting, at Colo. Springs last
week they report as having had
a good time on their journey.
They also report as a very likely
circumstance that we will get the
ood Road Committee to report in
favor of the Pikes Peak Trail
road, or formerly known as the
Golden Belt cut off road. They
promised to do all in thier power
for this end of the road.
Miss Bernice Plessinger, the
“Hello girl” at the switch board
here, will resign her position as
<uch the last of this week. Miss
Plessinger has only held that
position for the last month but
she has shown herself to be one
ot the best operators at the board
that has served in that capacity
for some time. She has been
kind and obliging to everyone,
and the Cheyenne County Tele
phone company will lose one of
the best operators they have
ever had. Miss Plessinger will
teach school this winter and we
know that she will make a suc
cess of it from the way she has
done her duty in the telephone
office.
PROSPECT HILL.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Calvert and
children of First View, spent last
Saturday with home folks at
Prospect Hill.
Rev. H. H. Gane and wife, of
Arapahoe took dinner at Prospect
Hill Wednesday.
J. S. Baber and Ike Jones are
on the road again buying up cat
tle of the fanners.
Mrs. Geo. Walker of Arapahoe
spent a part of an afternoon with
Mrs. J. A. Jenkins last week.
Carl Driscol, of the Givens
neighborhood, has been with the
road surveying corps for a fort
night.
Next Sunday Rev. H. H. Gane
of Arapahoe will preach at the
Mayfield school house, at 3 p. m.
Everybody come.
Mrs. Scott, wife of Rev. D. M.
Scott, of Cheyenne Wells, and
her son, Dwight, were guests for
dinner at Prospect Hill recently.
Warner Givens from northwest
of the Hill, has suspended his
threshing and well drilling oper
ations for this week, and is run
ning his corn harvester at home.
Mr. Elmer Richards, of Chic
ago. visited hi? uncle Mr. Calvin
Raven, last week. Painting and
otherwise improving the premises
of his mothers home just east of
Mr. Ravens. The young man
was here seven years ago and
has the rare faculty of rememb
ering those he met here at that
time.
Not only in material things is
Arapahoe showing landable act
ivity. The church peoble to
gether with a well meaning pub
lic have joined together and are
building a manse for the use of
the resident minister, Rev. H. H.
Gane and family. Mr. Moore
generously donated a half acre
and the people are working with
a willing mind and it is expected
that in a few weeks the house
will be finished and ready for
occupancy.
Mrs. J. A. Jenkins is rejoicing
this week in having her mother,
Mrs. Price, and her sister, Miss
Charlotte Price, to visit her.
They spent a couple of weeks at
Ft. Collins visiting a number of
relatives in that vicinity. The
exhiderating mountain air of
that region and the salubrious
ozone of these planes country
will put them back in Kansas
City with a reserve of strength
for a hole year of school work
and enjoyable living.
The failure of enough Masons
to meet and do business at the
called meeting last Friday even
ing, bodes as a lack of interest
not entirely wholesome. “Who
can best work and best agree”
should spur us to be found in our

We meet upon the level and part upon the square
For the world must have its due.
We mingle in the ranks of men
A cold unfriendly crew.
But the influence of our gatherings
In momory is green.
And we long upon the level
To renew the happy scene.
Walter L. Bales, editor of the
Excelsior Springs Standard, kind
ly favored the writer with a copy
of his ably edited paper last
week. Among the many items
of pCiblic interest we noted that
Cole Younger, the famous bandit
of civil war times, had made a
public profession of religion and
had joined the Christian church
at his home Lees Summit Mo.
Although he has twenty-nine
bullet holes in his body, ho keeps
in vigerous health and is endeav
oring to atone for the mistakes
of his early life, by exemplary
citizenship in his declining years.
Did you ever hear John the
Baptist preach—No, well we
heard one of his sermons Sunday
had you been there you would
have been treated to. the same
clarion gospel call. Rev. Scott
chose one of the great Johns,
sermons, and with commendable
Christian fervo- used his voice
and gestures to say as John the
Baptist did in his inimical way
“Behold the lamb of God that
taketh away the sin of the
world.” Rev. Scott is nearing
the end of his ministerial year
and is wanting us all to under
stand that he is a voice also of
one crying in the wilderness,
“Repent, for the Kingdom of
Heaven is at hand.” Go and
hear him next Sunday, it may ba
his last.
