Mr. and Mrs. Claud Warren were afternoon callers at Pros pect Hill on Tuesday. it is a marvel how green and luxur iant the grass continues—four months “wearin of the green’ ’may get your 'lrish up” but no harm will come of that. Congressman Edward Keating keeps flic political searchlights turned on by his able letters in the Record, and if you would get the gist of political do ings next to the throne read his re view of current events, Mr. J. A. Triml.de, of Cheyenne- Wells, favored us. with an afternoon call.recently. Mr. Trimble was for*, inerlv a Springlield, Ills,, nuvn-agood country, but he is enjoying better health here than any where he has l.»een. Tuesday gave us a little rain on this l;iM and the heavy hanging clouds all about tin? horizon, indicated copious showers for oip; neighbors on the bor der. Great crops will come from these refreshing rains and plenty is in sight if it rains no more. Mr. Kail Peek a young man from Topeka. Kansas, is sojourning a ftw days with the writer. He is looking over this country with a view of set tling here. He is 21 yeays of age and the saloon in Ghpy.cnnp Wells is the first one he ever saw. The young man, lias none of those habits that attach, to the public drinking place. ‘‘Out of sight, out of mind” might bp a good moral. Think on these filings, Mr. and; Mrs, Chas. Turner and son touched a,t Prospect Hill Monday in the cool of tlie day. From hence they autoed to. flie Forker farm to view flieir cattle in that vicinity. Charley gave us a proper setting in a picture of our rye and sweet clover tields. ljlis camera is an honest type and por trays the cro]) as it is This picture taking of luxuriant tields of grain and forage crops is commendable. We all have views of things and we bad just, jps well have good and correct views. When we call oif, from labprs and go ipto. tjip mountains, pleasure resorts and beauty spots of the earth we load ourselves down with views of these at tractive, places, We should do like wise wjth our waving corn and golden grain or new mown hay—and even our lowing herds and grazing flocks. It is home where the heart is” and our ljeart should be in our immediate work and if we can make ourselves tynd our work as pretty as a picture, get Charley Turner or some other ar tist to snap you ere something hap j>eus to mar your beauty. j Announcements Under this heading candidate’s an nouncements will be published until the primary election in September at j the Hat rute of $5.00, payable strictly ' iin udvunce. J. M. StaLey, Cliairman. There are many things to be proud of about our little city, but the one most important is our band. The boys are all energetic persevering and good musicians, and their instructor, Mr Akeily, is a man that is hard to beat, es pecially when it comes tu under standing and teaching music. The boys have gone down in their pockets for expenses and given their time to form one of the best institutions in town. Novy it is time for the town peo ple to awake and build a fire, put the coffee pot on and see if we can not be of some benefit to them. Employ them to play for entertainments of every kind where music is heeded; and com pensate them in a befitting man ner. Nothing is better for a town than a good band, and we have it. Let’s help the boys and they will help us. > Don’t Buy Lumber i f-v- Coal Cement, or any kind of GILDING I^pP^aLs- JpA' Until you have first called on fl II 1 mc ’ cxam t ne< l nay stock and \jftof£r jf got rry prices.
