Most of our farmers have quit planting and are now engaged in cultivating their crops. Mrs. Zuck expects to make a Visit to Elkton Colo in the near future. Mr. Derry will have charge of the ranch during her absence. Walter Clossan in company with several from Kit Carson, passed here last Wednesday for the harvest fields near Beloit, Kansas. Mrs. E. B. Mason, and so n Herbert departed for Sawyer Kansas, Sunday for a visit and assist Wiegner’s in their wheat harvest. Messrs Art and Ben Brown have lost eight calves from the black-leg. They went out to their homestead, returning Friday eWbiiig after doing some fencing on tne Weigner place, MW. Geo Abernathy and children were in Limon last week visiting her sisters. One of Mrs. Abernathy's sisters is from S. Dakota and is on her way to Grand Junction to visit her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Schaffer. Mr. A. M. West of Kit Carson was at the Winnie Priess Ranch last Wednesday for one of his burrows which had strayed from the Crissman place. Mr. West is staying at the Crissman Ranch during Mr. and Mrs. Crissman’s absence at the Panama Fair. Most of those who have alfalfa cut it last wee Tc. The crop was not very heavy. Most of these people are optomistic and sowed more alfalfa seed this spring. Westover and sons are plowing quite an area near here and ex pect to make alfalfa their prin cipal crop. This vicinity was visited by quite a heavy wind storm last Friday morning about 3 o’clock. Winnie Priess’ place got pretty badly shook up. 11 is blacksmi.h shop, hen house and shed over bis silo were demolished. Also a lew panels of snow fence were turned over. s. The Farmers Union are plan ■ ning a picnic for next Saturday, July 3rd, on the Sandy about 5 miles south of here. Peter Halde, Anna Gerke and Thos. Mansfield ranches. ] DIED— Frank Piltz, age 12 years 52 days, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Piltz 6 mi. north of here Thurs day June 24. The little fellow had been an invalid all his life. The bereaved family have the sympathy of this community. Lillian Roush had the misfor tune to break her arm last week. A horse which she was riding stumbled and in some way her arm was broken altho she was not thrown. Alone out in the field, she displayed splendid nerve remaining on the horse and guiding it back to the house. Minnie Daly is staying wifh her helping to while the lonesome hours away.
