Having discovered that quite a number of people in the neigh borhood have a birthday during August the Grandview Sunday School has decided to give an August birthday party on the night of August 24th at the home of S. J. Adams. Everyone is in vited to come and help us have a Kood time. District Attorney Purcell, whom we all know as a friend, was the popular man of our town last Fri day. He talked to the students of the Normal Institute Friday morning, and was liked so well that he was prevailed upon by his many friends, to talk to us again in the evening, accordingly at eight oclock, ev c ry one that heard him in the evening brought someone with him. Mr. Purcell is certainly a draw card among our state officials, as is evidenced by the crowd which he attracts. Mr. Purcell is possessed of moral and intellectual qualifica tions. of a much higher average than we usually find in men of his official standing. He paid a high compliment to our Supt. of schools, and to the Cheyenne Co. high school board for the effort they are making toward establishing a domitory for use in connection with our high school, end asserted, that if the plan is carried out doyenne Co. will have the honor of being the forerunner of a big scheme that will eventually spread throughout our state. In conclusion he asks that we all join hands in helping him in his great task of “cleaning up” this district. Will we do it?- certainly, Mr. Purcell’s ideas of moral life are worth putting into effect, so let us all work with him and in a short time have a county that we will all be proud of and that other counties can point to as an example. Here’s success to you and your ideas, Mr. Purcell. HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS. Probably the most successful Institute in the history of-the Sixth Normal Institute District was brought to a close last Friday when instructors and teachers dissolved themselves from one another and returned to their , “Home Sweet Home”, highly elated over the great amount of knowledge which they carried away with them, and the good time that they had, while in our city. ■ Our citizens are being praised in the most lauditory terms, for 1 the manner in which they cared for, the comfort and entertain THE CHEYENNE RECORD. j ment of the teachers, and they ' certainly deserved it, Jbut on the other hand, arent we, the citizms jof Cheyenne Wells aiid vicinity just as greatful to the teachers, , for the entertainment and the in- ! spiration that th> y g ive to us? ' we certainly ought to be, and we are. It was through our County Superintendents of schools, and the instructors and teachers of the Sixth Normal Institute Dis trict, that we had the privih g i of being entertained by so many . p "ominent men and women from ' , different sections of our state. I It was through them that we received the inspiration, to try in the future, harder than we have ever tried in the past, to make our lives better, and to lift our morals higher and higher, until ; the end when we can say, “our : labbrs are ended and all is well.” | I The time only too soon for us to say goodbye. It was a hard thing to do, especially for the young men of our city, who could be seen standing on the street corners, with their fists doubled into their eyes trying to ' repel the invasion of tears, which , it seemed no earthly power could stop and mourning because of the long three years that must pass before the young ladies will re turn to cheer their unhappy souls. We sympathize with the boys, but lets all join in a hearty good bye, and be glad that we were so 1 fortunate as to have them in our midst, just for those two big weeks, that we all enjoyed so much.
