All bids to be on blank forms as furnished with specifications, and each accompanied by a certified check or b.dder’s bond made payable to the board of directors, and in a sum not less than live per cent of the proposal tendered, as a guarantee that should a contract be awarded that successful contractor will enter contract and fur nish bond, all as required by the.spec itications. The bond and checks of bidders will be returned, also that of the successful bidder, after Surety Bond has been furnished. Mr. Goodnight is well know here for his business qualifications, ami is now Man ager of the Farmers store at Kit Carson, which speaks well for his business qualifications. Elsewhere in this issue will be found the announcement of V Shankland, for the office of Coun- Ity Commissioner, on the Repub lican ticket from the 3rd, Com missioners district. Mr. Shank land is a man well known in this part of the district, having been in the Lumber business at Arapa hoe, and is now buying grain at that place, and is well qualilied to fill the position to which he seeks. Akerly, County Clerk NOTICE The County High School vviil open the 6th of September. On Saturday the 4th of September the Principal will be at the High School from 9:30 A. M. to 12; and from 1:30 to 4:00 o’clock to meet any students who may wish to come up at that time and get their courses lined out. Rooms are going to be scarce until the new quarters are com pleted and hence every pupil who is going to have to stay in town should come in and get arrange ments completed for his room. We are going to attempt to serve meals to the out-of-town pupils who need it in the base ment of the building the High School is now occupying. This will be furnished at cost. Willard E. Mr. and Mrs. W. Watson from Straton Colorado visited J H. Ilahe and family Sunday. W. E. Schimmalmon who hm been visiting in Canyon city, re turned to the T. M. Martin home Friday night. Rev. Konkel reports that there were present at the Konkel re union of Cousins at Canon City eighteen who picnictd at the State Park, near the prison walls on August 16th. The various places visited by the cousins were the noted Sky Line Drive, to the top of the Roy al Gorge, the State Prison, the Tunnel, Odd Fellows home and various other places of interest The cousins in groups toured other parts of the StaLe both be fore and after the day of the re union at Canyon City. The cous ins are numerous living in almost all parts of the State and of the Nation, and the cousins day is to be an annual affair. HERE AND THERE. Last week in company with our genial land man McMann we autoed via the Hayes ranch to near Brandon. We had no kick coming from that pleasant trip’ notwithstanding we sold 3 good mules to McMann. which we had purchased of EdTiammer, Mc- Mann puts them on his ranch 7 miles north of Cheyenne Wells. Good roads is always evidence of an enterprising put lie. The tractor and grader arc kept busy making roads to move the im mense crops to market, and for people to go out an 1 witness the marvelous developement of our county. It keeps David Zucic, the Surveyor pretty busy survey ing new roads. The last roads to get on the map are in the Dickman. Hadley neighborhood also some needed road improve ments in the Snyder and Nesbit vicinities. R. B. Meek, President of the Bristol Bank with his family ac companied by Miss Conolmean Principal of Bristol High school came Sunday to the writer to call on us and Miss Maggie Lynn who are old time Mo, friends. Unfotu nately we were all from home and missed seeing them. No excellence with out labor. This was excellent in them, and their reward was in seeing a thriving town and a prosperous country, J. A. J.
