The Contest Winners

contest which was held at the Chey
enne county high school building in
this city last Saturday. A great deal
of interest was shown at this meeting
and those who attended report their
time well spent. The two pupils who
! were chosen to attend the state meet
ing which will be held in Denver next
Tuesday were Miss Zelma Clossan of
this city and Miss Irene Jackson, of
the upper Golden Valley school. They
will be accompanied on their trip by
County Superintendent of Schools,
Mrs. Esther B. Weir, on next Monday
morning.

The high cost of taxation is
calling forth meetings of indig
nant tax pa ers all over the state,
and ways and means of reducing
the taxes are being seriously con
sidered. Cheypnne county is
not alone, hut other counties art
having the same kind of trouble.
Reduction of taxes- must come
from the people themselves, and
a start must be made somewhere.
The chief cause of high taxes is
the high cost of what we are
phased to call education, and if
the prespnt dav course given in
the public schools is worth ihe
price it costs we can not cut
down any there. If it is not
worth the price, it is a detriment
and remedial measures should be
taken.
