The amount of building actually in progress is large and a much greater volume is indicated by the an nouncement of construction work def initely planned. The number of im portant contracts awarded comprises an illustrative feature of the news for the week. ‘A contract has ben awarded for the construction of the first section -23 miles—of a railway to be built westward from West Palm Beach, Fla., through the Upper Everglades. The building of the line is expected cocn fidently to have a most beneficial effect upen reclamation and settlement oper ations. “In Oktibbeha county, Mississippi, a contract has been awarded for the con struction of 31 miles of good roads. Franklin county, Alabama, has award ed at about $50,000 a contract for the construction of eighteen miles of road which will be the last link in a first class highway across the county. “West Palm Beach, Fa., has awarded contracts at sums aggregating about $70,000 for constructing a sea wall and sewers and improving streets. “Anderson, S. C., has awarded a con tract for' 90,000 square yards of street paving. “A contract for the erection of a university gymnasium building to cost $31,000 has beeni awarded at Tusca loosa, Ala. “A school building contract has been awarded in Chipley, Fla. A contract for remodeling a school building at a cost of about $30,000 has been award ed in Charleston, S. C. “Among the items of construction work to be done, as reported this week are: “Two apartment houses each, Atlan ta and Macon, Ga.; bank building to be remodeled, Spartanburg, b. C.; church buildings, Charleston, S. C., and Winter Park, Fla.; paving, Green wood, S. C., and Lake City and Miami, Fia.; warehouse, Carrollton, Ga. Qfil cials of Palm Beach county, Florida, have decieded to proceed with an elec tion upon the issuance of SBOO,OOO of bonds for constructing roads and bridges, Waynesboro, Ga., voted bonds for erecting a school building. It is stated that arrangements have been perfected for the erection in Charles ton, S. C., of a hotel building to have twelve stories and contain 250 rooms.” “A charter has been issued to a com pany which proposes to build a rail road btween Savannah and Milledge ville, Ga.
