‘ - F ‘ e | THE NEW S| 23 Lc XD | ey T . By E. L. RAINEY. e S B ™ T TN W T Y ACITY PARK, ] A Flcce for Pleasure cnd Recreciion | Needed in Dawscn. I Dawson is an incorporated city, | ard we would like niuch to see it} take on the ways ofa city. Among | i*s many reeds is a public prone | nade or street, whose sidewnlk i~! kept in good order, and in the lay-| ing oft of which av eye should be| had both to dry and wet, cold and | hot weather. A sufficient number | of trees (uot twigs) should be| planted out so that awple shade | would be given. At the end of ] this street there should be a par!;.' where those ot our citizens who | have to lake recrestion by walking, | can wend their way in comfort :md\ with satisfaction. A good deal of the money of the city has in past| Years been verv properly, and per- | hape judicioi:l; experded in mak g good drives in and sbout the city for those of our citizens who Juxuriate in plessure equipages, but scarccly one out of ten of our penglql are able to keep horses and carriages, and, therefore, it is but right and proper that provision should be made for the pleasure h.fll_i recreation of those ot us who either prefer walkii ¢, or are com- l pelled to walk. It woeld take rerhnps more movey to buy the and and lay off the cround and | walks of a park than the city could ‘ well afford, but there is almost x necessity for snch an investment, end if the city council wou!d make #n effort we have no doulit hut that it would get much aid and comfort from tne large number of our j-eople who are anxious for it. The young ladies would le glad to lend a helping hand, ard we have no doubt but they con'd pet up concerts, suppers and hazars, from which enough money coul | be received to warrant the ity in making the venture. The young people of Dawson bave been re markably liberal in attending ali entertainments gotten up for the benefit ot the diderent clurches. And for this liberality we com mend them, Now *‘turn about is fair plag,” and the lady members o! the churches who in their laud able zeal have gotten so many dol lars out of the hard earned ‘wages of our young men would gladly, if asked, take a willing hand in as sistine in any plan by which money could be l‘lli.\ie(s, for securing o park. These are our suggestions; they can doubtless be improved on, or sdded to. If we can only succeed in enlisting attention, and seiting gome plan on foot for a park, the writing of this article would be vread upon the waters, One of the first places to which the s'rarger who goes to New York, either on busiress or sight-sccing, is Central Park. The city has| expended milhons of dollars on this pleasure reeort, avd only during this year has expeneded £9,000.000 for several thousand acres of land, which it is proposed to lay off for anothet park, and it is by no means too early in the duy of its growth for Dawson to tread in the footsteps of other places. The de mand, especially of our young peo~ ‘ ple, loudly calls fora park. "AHI work and no play makes Jacka very dull boy.” | Here They Come. Quite a number of cahbagges are comiag in for the local warket.— They will continue to come until September, when the demand for cabbage will drop off. The supply now comes from New York., Pota toes and onions are also being re ceived. Thisisabout all thatis be. ing brought in from outside mar kets now. The fruit sesson has bee so remarkably heavy and the prices have been so low that the vegatable importation was slow in veginning. ‘The fruit market has had a good run, however. Afier. September apples from the Nortl, will hegin to come in, and orungcs from Florida will be pouring in by that time, sc that the froit mer chants will have no time from now uniil alter the winter season. .
