This fact should aot be forgotten when the camprign opens next year. Sl Dr. H. H. Tucker, the venera e and talented editor of the Christain Index, came to his death a few days ago under very sad oirenmstances. At an carly hour BSundsy mornin she fell from a #gecond-story window athis residence in Atlanta, and died a few hours later from injurics thus received. he news of his death will be heard with deep sorrow wherzever he was koown, and no mau in the South was move widely respected or highe Iy estecmed. Ax Albany farmer claims to bave discovered an elixir which willprevent drouth or exhaustion :n cotton. His plan is to seatter cotton seed meal between the rows, putting as much next to the roots of the plants as possible, and plow tin. e tried it this season on a portion of @ field of eotton which was planted at the same time and caltivated alike, and that portion upon which the experiment was tried was green and flourishing while the other portion was dried up, the picture of decay and death, 45 Republicans and Cengress. There'is likely to. be some troul !a in organiging congress when it 12 called together by the president, “nud 1f present plans are carried out the republican majority will §ing itselt compelled to heal some diftor euces in the party before it is givs &u the control which belongs to the majority. It is known that the colored republicans at the south are wuch dissatisfied at the treat. went received from the adminis traticn, gnd the plan of the presis deat to build up a white republis can party at the south which shall ignore the blacks bas made the latter exeeedingly vestive, Tle plen is to get enmough ropublican membicrs from the south—of which there are three from North Car oliga, three from Tennessee, and ove from Louisiana—to stay out of the republican eaucus to prevent the party from organizin;f' until the claime of southern republizans ure recon’zed. As the republican ma- Jority is only 2, eince the death aof Mr. Zamird of Nebraska, such a combination, it it eould be made, would have a good deal of power. —-t e The spooks and goblins that delight To fili with terror all the night ; That etelk abroad in hideous dreains With which dyspepsia's fancy ‘ ‘teemE, Will sever trouble wtth their ills, The man who trusts in Pierce's Pilis, Dy, Pieree's Pleacant Purgative Pellets : vegetables, harmjess, 1 painless, sure! | Gather It With Care. The Albany News offersthe tarm ers the following valuable and timely suggestions : The farmers of this esuntry un derstand, as a gemeral thing, that clean, pretty eotton is in greater demand and brings higher prices than dirty and trashy eotton, but tLey are, perhaps, not aware that the differenee this season is and will be wider than usnal, Last year's crop turned out ahont a half of a million Lales of very low grade esttan, and the present visi ble supply consists largely of that inferior clase of eotton, for which there is little or uo demana. Tha. is one reason why the first picking and offering of the present eeason was in such active demand and brought such good prie:s. 'The mills had been running on ehirt time, and the stock ot cotton gouds wus running very low. There hias never been a more ae tive demand for early cotion than this season and the faets abore ac count for it in a large degree. But #0 soon as marketing becomes gen eral throughout the cotton belt, the demard will become less ses tive, and prices will probably de cline. Tns section of the cotton helt has the advantage of all others in a quick maturity of the crop, which results in giving our plauters at least 5 per zent. more for their ot ton than any other section avers ages. Now, to add still further to this advautages. Care'ul hand ling will operate greatly to that endl by giving us a grade of eotton if’or which there is always a good demand. The planters of this ccuntry bave lost millions by a careless handling of their great pre l duct, and it is time for them to real- Lizeits importance. Therc is three quarters of a ecut per pound, or $7.50 per bale, diflerence between low midd!ing and middling, and 2l plasters know that but lirtle dist or trash will sufiice to make the dif ference in the grade. A planter should always keep the dirty and trashy cotton to it~ gelf, and never mix it with clean pickings. This is a very important ques tion and we trust thut this timely warning will zerve to save our plan ter patrons some morey. THE GOLDEM HARVEST IS UPON US. CGYTON IS UP AND EVERYBODY'S HEAD IS UP.
