Eprror—ln your last issue iI noticed an article headed “City Politics," in which you stated that our present mayor would likely ask for reselection, an? that he would in all probability be op posed by cither Capt. Wm. Kaigler or Judge R, F. Simmons. While pothing caii b-2aid aghinst the in tegrity of either of these thrce wnpu!ar and respected citizens, I ‘would ask, isit not time" to put aside the old officeholders and pol. Jiticians and look among the young« er generation for a set of officers to shape and guide the aflsirs of the city? lam decidedly of the opin ion that we can get equally as goud timber at least a generation younger, and I am heartily in fa vor 0f doing so. I havein view a young man, posgibly not over twenty-five years of age, who, I believe, would be most acceptable to the people ot the city. He was ‘born and reared in our midst, and ‘throughout nis whole career he has so conducted himsel! that a single objection could not be found to him, lotelligent, moral, inde, ‘Pendent, enterprising and Lonest, I think he is well worthy of the city’s confidence, While he has never beea consulted about the matter, I believe were he aps proached in the proper way he would consent to make the race, and were he elected he would make an execcutive of whom Dawson could well fteel proud. Iu pre~‘ senting the name of Mf. Edward R. Ocer 1 do it believing that it will| meet with the aoprobation of the majority of the best citizens of our city. Make up a ticket composed of substans tial, moral aud progressive young men ot the city, put at its head the name of Ed. The NEws contemplates with gratification the amicable relations that exist hetween the whites and ne;roes in this immediate region. It is in beautiful contrast to the estrungement that characterizes the twe races at some other points. We are tronbled with no anxiety for the immediate future, for the whites respect the rights of their colored fellow éitizerls;, and have a iull sense of the responsibilitics that rest on the stronger and more enlightened race thrown in con tact with a weaker. The relations between the white and colored race is sincerely cordial, and there is evefy reason to encourage the hope it that it will so remain, Ouf peo ple are not in sympathy with any movement that infringes upon the rights of the colored people, and believe in fair and honest dealing with them, and eich race recognizes the proprieties and barricrs which pature and circumstances have formed. There are occasione ally individual difficuluies, but th.y are so regarded, and never result in any widespread disaffection,— The whites of Dawson are remark able for the consideration which they show the negroes, and the ne groesin turn are noted for polite aud quiet deportment. il Elsctric Bitters.
