Atlanta has been given concrete
evidence that nature, resenting the
rivalry of Burbank, has done a plece
of plant freaking on her own hook
and Invented a banana plant that
grows six bunches of bananas on one
Btem.
The evidence (& a photograph

by Vacearo Bros, of New Orleans,
importers of bananas, cocoanuts and
othe Ttallan- American delicacies—and
photographs don't lie, except in the
movies.
The plant {s lecated on the San
Juan plantation of the Vaccaros, who
declare that this ig the first time in
the history of the banana industry
that it has been known for a hanana
plant to have mora than one bunch.

WASHINGTON, June 12 —Presi.
dent Wilson will slgn the tolls repeal
measure, with the Simmons amend
ment, it was learnad to-day at the
White House. The President does not
think the amendment necessary, but
since it does not change the charac
ter of the legislation, he will not ob-

The bill to repeal the tolls exemp
tion clause of the Panama Canal act,
which finally wa« passed by the Sen
ate last night by a vote of 50 to 25,
was sent 1o the House to-day fof ac
tion by that body on the BSenate
amendments,
The principal change made by the
Senate was the adoption of the Sim
mons-Norria amendment. Whether
thig will ba taken up by 'he House as
A body or will be left for the con
ferees to adjust is not yet certain.
The amendment specifically re
rgerves all rights that the United
Btates may have under the Hay-
Pauncefote treaty. While not a com.
plete victory for the anti-repeal
forces, the adoption of the amend
ment is looked on as a victory In
fact, as the free tolls Issue may now
be reopened by succeeding Con
gresses, right to do 8o being reserved
y the present bill, whereas a re
{:ell without the amendment would
ave made reopaning Bf the issue dif
ficult,
Should the House agree at once to
the Senate bil] as it stands, the meas
ure would have to go back to the
Senate only for signature, but if the
House of the conferers maka changes,
it again would have to be put before
both bodies for ratification before
going to the President for his signa
ture, Thig would cause a renewal of
the bitter fight that characterized the
final hours of discussion in the Sen
ate.
