The New D. C M. Co. Concentrator.
Strangers visiting Morenci should by
al) means pay a visit to the new concen
trator now being built by the above com
pany. Like a visit to New York, Chica
go or St. Louis, one sees so much in
Morenci on the grand scale that by com
parison a great thing becomes a small
matter. On every hand is to be seen
great embankments on dumps of mines
looking as huge as the. mountains then
selves, and the least sensitive nature
cannot help but feel a sense of the great
ness of the many enterprises now being
forwarded in this wonderland.
Among these many enterprises is the
new concentrator now in course of con
struction. Large frame buildings greet
the eye, to the left of which, occupying
1he slope, rises four terraces of steel set
on enormous foundations of masonry
The concentrator will be made of steel
from the Qilette, Herzog Mfg. Co. of
Minneapolis. The foundation is 120x170
feet and the mill will be in two sections
wiih the engine room in the middle, and
the power used will be gas.
The ore will be hoisted from the mine
and dumped into second-class ore- bins,
which will be 30 feet higher than the top
of the mill ; it will then be drawn out of
these bins on to a traveling belt 32 in
ches wide and 130 faet long and carried
to the crushers at the top of the mill.
The first-class ore will be picked from
the belt while in motion.
The method of concentrating thd ore
will be very much the same as that fol
lowed by the A. C. Co., the ore being
first crushed coarse and concentrated on
jigs and then the tailings from the jigs
are recrushed and concentrated on Frue
vanners.
When completed it will be the largest
6ingle mill in Arizona.
The D. M. C. have eight furnaces in
operation.
Abe Sigel is now working in the A. C.
Co's store.
Judge Everhardy has sold his new
building to Anastacia Murray.
Mr. Morris, the B. B. Store proprietor,
paid Clifton a visit last Sunday.
The incline leading from the Longfel
low narrow gauge road to the mine is
2,200 feet in length and has a slope
of 33 degrees.
J. C. Gatti, of the Cliftcn M. M. & S.
F., was here on business Saturday.
Tim Nordelli has sold his saloon in
Morenci to Bias Sirianni, who will take
possession this week.
Dr. H. A. Schell intends making regu
lar trips to Clifton to treat diseases of
the eye of persons who find it inconveni
ent to go to Morenci for treatment.
The new water system of Morenci
works like a charm, the pressure being
in many parts of town very heavy, which
will be of the greatest advantage in case
of fire.
The D. C. M. Co. will soon commence
building their new store. It will be very
much larger and more convenient than
the present store building. It will be
built entirely of Bteel and stone and
thoroughly fire proof.
Br. Davis, accompanied by Constable
Hermann Keppler and two deputies, left
Sunday afternoon for Eagle Creek to
visit a child reported very low with
smallpox. There are no cases of the dis
ease at present in Morenci. .
It will be gratifying news to the mauy
friends of Dan Price, at one time a resi-
deuter of Morenci, to learn that he has
made a rich strike in the Oscnra moun
tains east of Socorro, N. . M. He is now
hipping copper ore regularly to the
smelter.
Munquia & Lappint have had their
place newly papered and kolsomined
and the bar has been removed to the
front part of the main hall. Adolfo
Gonz.iles, lately of Las Cruces, and
known as one of the mixologists of New
Mexico, is now tending bar.
The D. C. M. Co. have just completed
the new addition to their machine shop.
It is 150 feet long by 45 feet wide, and
will contain a large punching machine
and shears and one set of 14-foot boiler
rolls, and a traveling 'crane to extend
from one end of the building to the
other.
We were misinformed regarding the
statement made in our last issue that
Judge Egan had gone to Morenci to
prosecute Officer Will Keppler. Mr.
Keppler had himself engaged the ser
vices of the Judge to defend him both
at the coroner's inquest and in the jus- j
tice's court. He was exhonorated in
both courts.
A dance was given last Monday night
by the Alianza society at their hall in
Morenci in honor of their vice-president,
and traveling branch lodge, organizer,
C. H. Tully. Loredo's band supplied
the music, there being about 30 couples
on the floor at a time. The good things
of life were not forgotten. The dancing
was continued until old "sol" poked his
round bald head above the bills saluting.

pest house, located near Morenci, and
stole a dozen quilts and a small tent, be
sides rifling a trunk which had belonged
to one of the patients, having used a
pick to force an entrance into the build
ing. The house had been perfectly se
cured by Deputy Constable Thomas
when he released the patients, and the
premises were thoroughly fumigated with,
all contents, so that fears of a recur
rence of the disease from the stolen
articles are unnecessary.
Last week Paul Becker had occasion
to put $353 in a small box, which ha
placed under the counter behind some
larger boxes. Three men were in the
store at the time and noticing Mr. Beck

plans (o get the money. One of the men
