Taft Did not Carry Idaho. of Idaho has been under the hntnil. iation since election of being classed in the Taft column, and eastern people have naturally wondered why Idaho with its Roosevelt majority in the primar ies and the influence of such lead ers as Senator Borah, lined up with the reactionaries on election day. It has been a bitter disap pointment to the Progressives,and they have felt that it was the sn preme court decision that forced the writing in of names of the Roosevelt electors that brought about the result. The welcome news comes from Boise this Thursday morning, however, that Idaho will give its electoral votes to Wilson, instead of Taft. an of of on in of Governor-Elect John M. Haines is a brilliant man. He made some magnificent addresses during the campaign, consisting of ten-min ute talks to fill in the time before other, speakers could take the platform. Since election he has gone to California to reenperate and in an interview down there said he was bitterly opposed to the Bull Moosers and said, "If it had not been for the Bull Moosers Htiwley would have been elected Patting the two state governor, fnents together, it is a comment on the election worthy of a dip lomat. The prospects now are that Gov ernor James H. Hawley will re sign his position within the next few days, thus giving way to Lieu tenant-Governor L. H. Sweetzer. The latter will as his first official act, appoint Hawley as United States senator to fill the unexpired term of W. B. Heyburn, deceased. This will hold only until the next legislature, at which time two re publican senators will be elected. However, Hawley will have the honor of serving two months ss senator, which the Governor is satisfied is better than waiting for some legislature in the uncertain future to elect him. J. A. Wayland, owner of the Appeal tj Reason, committed sui cide at Girard, Kansas, Monday. Thomas R.
