fountain $\mt bulletin. ELMORE COUNTY. j Soon M. PAYNE, .... KutToK amu Proi-riftor. a. 8 Saturday Morning, March 30,188!) Ll<n TUB ISAt'TH UK KNOWN. Then I lu Hut Yet Still All At The following from the Lexington Budget 'applies very forcibly to Mountain Home and vicinity: An immense immigration is pour ing into Washington, and thousands monthly arrive in Portland. From the car windows as the train follows along the Columbia opposite this region the aspect is not caculated to impire immigrants with a desire to step and inquire about the country. They do not know that they would find as productive and rich soil as lies out of doors; that this county offers cheap homes already improv ed, or vacant land for the asking; that the industrious settler with a small capital can do as well here as ary other part of the United Statès; that potatoes weighing five or six pounds, parsnips three feet long, carrots four inches in diameter and !£}. All other things in proportion grow here ithout irrigation. These things should be brought to the notice of tie home-seekers. They should B be directed into this region, and its advantages -panted.. out .Jt« Tne settlers here want others to lo cute among them, that they may have more neighbors and better Bchool facilities; the merchants of the town want more farmers and town residents to come in, as their business will be increased thereby. Then various means should be de vised to turn this way a portion of the stream of immigration; and when once the home-seekors begin coming here and finding out what awaits thrift and industry among these hills and hollows, the future ! of the town and county is assured, j Dach emigrant has friends in the j cast who are waiting to learn where le has located and what kind of ; I I country he has found, and every one who makes his home here will ' j i lie followed by others. For this reason it is the duty of every settler, 1 ,nd business man already here to * I do his part toward laying before ethers at a distance the factB about • j i Ihis country.
