Marsh, the unfortunate man, was an engineer on the Sand division of the Union Pacific since 1875, and had never met with an accident until the recent wreck which resulted in his death by scalding. The Rathdrum and Boot he-Powell teams locked horns on the Rionzaga diamond at Spokane last Saturday, with the result that honors were iilxmt equally divided, the score being 21 to 21 when the game ended in the tenth inning. The Rathdrum hoys feel con fident they can beat them and un doubtedly there will be another game played soon. Major Frank E. We have to record three marriages in Rathdrum since last pnblication day. The first occured on Sunday when J. N. Morris and Miss Della Handy, both of Rathdrum, solemnly vowed to live only one for the other through life. The second marriage occured Wednesday when John M. Joe Cliilds of Hope, the pioneer lvoat man of Pend d'Oreille lake, was in tlic city a short time Tuesday on his way home from Spokane, where he had been to purchase the boiler and ma chinery for a new boat which lie is now building. "I have been t ryingto make arrange ments with the Northern Pacific Rail way company for the passenger traffic between Lakeview and Spokane.''said Mr. Childs to a Republican reporter, "but have been unable to secure any satisfaction in the matter, and have concluded to go ahead with my ar-| rangements independent of the rail-j way company. The Lakeview traffic is on the increase and there is business | enough to warrant the const ruction of a boat to take care of it on the lake. My plan was to get the company to sell through tickets from Spokane to the lake, the passengers to be met at Ratlidrum and conveyed toStenmlmut Landing by stage and from thereby Wit to Lakeview. It is LJic shortest, quickest and cheapest route to the! mining camp. I have purchased the' lumber and have just been to Spokane ! to purchase the machinery for my new j boat, which I hope to have completed; in about five or six weeks. I have made arrangements with one of your liverymen to run a daily stage from Ratlidrum to the landing where the; passengers will lie transferred to the; boat and taken to Lakeview on regular ! schedule time." I do not know yet; what tlie fare will he from Ratlidrum to Lakeview. hut it will he low enough : and the set vice will lie such that tin route wüIIh- preferable to any other that might he established. The stage will meet the train at Ratlidrum ea'-li morning and there will b - no delay in the conveyance of passengers.*' "1 am sorry to have Is-t-ii unable to make satisfactory arrangements with tlic company to sell through tickets. hut this shall not effect tlic amount of fare nor the service."
