One of the busy firms in the city is that of Utter & Luck, civil engin ers. Beside their usual run of work they have been given the contract of plaiting the townships of the county for use in the u asse88or's office. The data for the work is to be secured by O. M. Harvey. The township maps are quite large, some 2| x 3 feet, and ore bound in a large book. There are sixty townships in this county that that have been surveyed, and under the law as passed by the last legislature "All lands in the county for which the United States has issued Its patent shall be platted thereon in such a manner as to correspond with the technical descrip tion of the lands as described by the gov ernment survey thereof; and ou each tract shall be entered the name of the patentee thereof, together with the name of the present owner, In all cases where any portion of such township has been subdivided into lots and blocks for town site purposes, a plat of suoh township shall be prepared according to the official subdivisions thereof, if it has been so subdivided, and upon each subdivision shall be entered ihe name of the present owner and if a government townsite, then also the name of the person to whom the first deed for each subdivi sion thereof was issued; when any deed of transfer is presentad in the assessor which in any wise affects original ownership as shown by such plat it shall be his duty to change such plat as shall be necessary to show such change of title and lo enter the name of the pres ent owner thereon; and thereupon to stamp any such deed so pres°nted with the following words, "presented to aud platted by me'' and sign the name for which there shall be no charge.
