IT Big Cleanup Will be Made in Idaho Placers. Sturgil Bar, the old placer camp down the Snake from Weiser has been a regular producer in a small way for twenty-five years. The Baker Herald has the following informa tion regarding this season's work at the bar; "Messrs. Heed, Kobinette & Co., the owners of Sturgill bar placer mines on Snake river, are wearing broad smiles these days. Ten thous and shining dollars lying exposed on the bed rock is the cause of the smiles. Never in the history of Sturgill bar did prospects look bright er or the glittering gold more beau tiful than the present time as it lay scattered on the bed rock in the flumes. The "yaller stuff" is much In evidence. Plenty of water is also on hand for a prolonged run and very con servative and experienced placer miners place the clean-up at easy $10,000, with a probability of $15, 000 . Moreover, the mistaken idea of the gold being fine is exploded by beautiful nuggeis from the size of a flax seed to a walnut. In fact Slur gill bar may be termed a coarse gold proposition. It is the intention of the owners to keep mining full blast until water slacks which will be in the fall, when, we predict, one of the finest clean ups in the state of Oregon will be made. On Star Routes. Mail contracts which effect July 1, 1902, for the formant e of mail service on the star routes in the states and territories, provide that, in addition to carrjing the mails to the various postoffices, the carrier is required to deliver mail into all boxes aud hang small bags or satchels containing mail on posts that may be erected along the line of route This will be of great benefit to the residents along the mail routes, and all should avail themselves of the privilege of a free delivery. went into per. on cranes Fish Hatchery. On Last Sunday as we were return ing from our visit to Helena we hud me pleasure of visiting with A.M. Tous ley. the owner and sole inhabitant of what is familiarly known as "the one man town." We were shown over Mr. Tousley's placer diggings upon which he is at present working every spare moment, owing to the limited supply of water. Right here we want t" say that this was our first visit to genuine placer diggings. VVhi'e liiere Mr. Tousley "panned out" a shovel full of dirt and produced several colors of coarse gold the sise of pin heads. Hut that was only a fair sample. The Tousley placer diggings are lo cated between Helena and Landor-, not far from the famous Peacock copper mines, and consist of four claims They are without doubt a bonanza in them selves. Tlie gold is coaise, of a rich y-llow color and almost pure, going $18 - 1)0, and running 6 cents to the ounce in silver. Mr. Tousley is at present en gaged in cleaning out a large open cut which when completed will he covered over with a larsre shed and otherwise (ire pared for all winter working. Tousley's placers are very pecu liarly situated inasmuch as they are near the summit of a mountain that seems to pitch sheer clown into the center of the earth. From Snake river a mountain rises at a slope of shout to 1 for 5000 feet ami way up there, in a slight dent in the moun tain is the ground mentioned above. The gold is thrown off from a buried ledge near by and if Mr. T.everstrikes the ledge that supplies the gold he will have a bonanza. He lias been driving tunnels for some years trying to strike it. The tor Group Sold. The Razor group consisting of three claims located in Thunder Mountain, about 300 feet from the Dewey mill site, were sold yesterday for a neat sum The claims are considered quite valuable as they are located upon the dyke between the Fairview and the Dewey property.
