WEISER. IDAHO. SATURDAY. DECEMBER 27, 1902. THUNDER MOUNTAIN PEOPLE LOUDLY DENOUNCE SERVICE OVER BOISE BOULEVARD. The Signal wept and pleaded with tin United States postal department use wisdom in establisihng a mail route into Thunder Mt. and give the people one that would be of some utility after it was established. We recounted the fact ibat there was al to ready established a servicable route to Warren and that a short exten sion from there at a cost of probably $3000 a year would give the best possibly service under present condi tions. But, no—a new route, twice long, must be established over the Boise Boulevard at $8000 a year to satisfy political prayers regardless as of tbe needs of the country. The result is just as foretold by this and the people of Thunder paper Mt. are practically deprived of any except what they get by wsrvice private carrier over the route from Warren. The Bear Valley route has long been practically closed—no travel is going that way and intermittently a little mail has been taken through on snow ghoes, but how long it will con tinue is problematical. One of the Signal's Roosevelt subscribers has sent us money with instructions to send his papers by registered mail, as otherwise he can not get them over the boulevard J FOUR CONFLAGRATIONS HAND RUNNING GIVE OUR MOUNTAIN FRIENDS . SOME EXCITEMENT. \ \ , Meadows, Dec. 24. Durine the past few days it has seemed that Meadows and vicinity was doomed to meet fate by the fire fiend, On Mon day of last week the residence on the Bob Cochran ranch with nearly all its contents was destroyed, and on Friday evening last the Wagy sawmill three miles northeast of towu was almost totally destroyed. The building was entirely oonsumed but a large portion of the mach inery aDd tools were saved or slightly damaged. How the fire orginated is only a matter of conjecture as there had been no tfire in the furnace for a few days prior to the fire. The loss will fail quite heavily on Mr. Wagy. No Insurance. Saturday morning the residence of Jake Wallace near town oaught fire in the roof from the stove pipe and a large portion of the roof was burned. Bat for the timely discovery and assistance the entire structure would have been doomed, Monday afternoon the general mere handise store of Keizur & Mitchell had a narrow escape from total destruction, The stovepipe had worked loose from the saddle where it passes through the roof. It was not noticed for some little time, but when discovered the flames had eaten a large place through the roof and the interior of the roof was ablaze almost from one end of the building to the other, Fortunately the flames were soon squelch ed after a lively battle. The loss will probably not exceed $30. Had the fire gotten beyond beyond oontrol in all pro b&bility the entire blook would have been destroyed. To show -that good service could be had via War ren, he states that he left Profile creek at 8 o'clock Friday morning, snow shoed 10 miles and walked the rest of the way to War. en which he reached at suppertime.
