A meeting of the Democratic state central committee is to be held in Boise on February 27, to fix the time and place for holding the two state conventions of that party this year, the first of which will select six delegates to the national convention at Denver and the second will nominate candi dates for the state offices. Matilda Johnson, who came here from Sweden a year ago, left for Spo kane Monday. Miss Johnson has been making her home with J. A. Andeison, the Nora merchant, and during her stay has learned some English. T. W. Bartley of Moscow was in Troy Saturday. The Valentine social Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Atherton was a big success, the house being crowded to its capacity. A fine time was had. F. M. Green was a Lewiston visitor last week, returning home Saturday. Jacob McGarvey, charged with in cest, has confessed, stating that his criminal relation with his daughter has been going on for the past seven years The girl is now 21 and two years ago gave birth to a child. McGarvey will certainly get a life sentence at hard la bor in the pen. There are two good rules which ought to be written on every heart: Never to believe anything bad about anybody unless you positively know it to be true: never to tell even that un less you feel that it is absolutely necessary. JFor a felon take common rock salt, dry in an oven, then pound it fine and mix with spirits of turpentine in equal parts put it in a rag and wrap the parts effected; as it gets dry put on more. Zue Kresher has opened a butcher shop in the old Wallner building, next to Broman's. The News expects to make a very interesting announcement next week regarding the developments in the In land Empire Copper property. The tunnel has cut into what is supposed to be the main ore body, and there is reason to believe a big strike has been made. In 2tpd Among the visitors this week at tending the Columbia conference is ■Oscar H. Neil, editor of the New World, published at Bellingham. Harry Brown of Clarkia, was in Troy yesterday buying supplies. He is one of those who finds that it pays to trade in Troy. The Columbia conference, in session this week, is proving a big success. The attendance is large. Wednesday evening services were held in English, and those who attended heard a most excellent sermon. J. B. Manson, brother of Johnny, ar rived the first of the week from Hick ory, Penn., and will remain here dur ing the summer. Johnny Manson left Wednesday for his old home in Hickory, Penn., after an absence of more than four years.
