The Capital News, Boise, says: "La tah county, the home of Congressman French, and of course, another repub ! lican machine county, is another where I the machine has deliberately taken the j power entirely from the hands of the republican voters and has named dele gates to the Wallace convention. It is needless to say that, the machine res olutions were adopted. It is really amusing, even in the face of the im-1 portance of the act of usurpation of power, to note in the newspaper ac count that one committeeman had some doubt about the expediency of indorsing Taft, as he admitted know ing many people of his precinct who I are opposed to the secretary of war. j 'However,' the paper continues, 'he voted with all those present to indorse ! Taft's candidacy.' The News would beg to ask the Moscow Post to answer a few questions that are of much importance to the voters of Latah county. We would like to have the Post explain why the last republican platform was not carried out. Why did the republican party of Idaho, under the leadership of Boss Brady, vote down the railroad anti-pass bill? Does Bradv favor this bill? What did the republican party of Idaho mean by pledging itself for an anti-trust law and then repudiating the pledge? Why did the republican party declare in its last state platform for equal taxation and then ignore the issue? Why did Mr. Brady and his friends defeat a rail road commission bill? Where does Mr. Brady stand today on this issue? The above questions ought not be either "insulting" or impertinent. And Editor Fields owes it to the people here to answer these questions. He owes it to the republican machine, of which he is the mouthpiece, to defend the party bosses of the charges of party repudiation. Mr. Fields owes it to his superiors to make good in their behalf. The Troy News has "in sulted" things generally by charging the republican party with the very seri ous crime of deliberately lying, to the people. The Post should show, from the republican platform and party ord, that the Troy News is once more "inconsistent." rec On the morning that he was acquit ted jn -this city of the murder of ex Govemor Frank Steunenberg, W. D. Haywood said: "I do not in any way blame Governor Gooding for the posi tion he took. How can he reconcile this statement with his bitter denuncia tion of the governor on Sunday in Chi cago? The Haywood who posed with an air of injured innocence before the law-abiding people of the country dur ing and immediately after his trial seems to have been a different Hay wood from the one who now rants and raves before a crowd of his 'own kind when he has another purpose to serve. —Statesman.
