North Idaho has another im portant place on the state ticket and that is represented by the can dtdacy of Judge Steele for the SU' preme bench! At the state con vention, held in Boise in August Judge Steele was given the notni nation for justice of the supreme court. It was prophesied at that time that he would receive the largest vote ever given a Candida e on the state ticket from Northern Idaho. The northern portion ol the state has never had a justice of the supreme court, and as the terms of the court are held alter nately between Lewiston and Boise it is particularly appropriate that at least one of the justices should come from Northern Idaho. Oc casions are constantly arising in the practice before the supreme court where it would be of material benefit, both to attorneys and clients, to have one of the justices in the northern part of the state. Judge Steele is well known in the Second J udicial district where for two years be has been judge of the district court. His ability is well I known, he has the confidence of j the people, and the voters, regard less of party affiliations, will vote for Judge Steele. His election would be of material benefit to the whole of Northern Idaho, and here in the second district, whtre Judge Steele is personally known, the vote should be practically unanimous. Croker Concedes Deieat. Richard Croker, in the dis patches of today, claims Greater New York by 90,000, but in doing so he tactily concedes defeat, for the state outside of New York City is safely republican by joo, ooo. The New York Herald puts the repub lican niiijouty above Harlaui at 140,000. Two years ago Van Wyck car ied Greater New York by 84,500 yet lost the state to Roosevelt by 17,786. In other words the state of New York above Harlarn river gave a repub lican majority of 103,000. This year with a much greater registra tion all over New York, both in and outside of the city, the repub licans lay greater claims to their majorities above Harlarn. Demo crats must curry Greater New Yorx by something over 150,000 to make the issue in New York even doubtful. Croker's claim of 90,000 is a concession of defeat. Willis Sweet, in his speech of Saturday night, commended to the citizens the candidacy of Geo. H. Rester and made a very excellent point in refereuce to the Import ance for Lewiston and Northern Idaho of having a member on the board of equalization in the state government. As state treasurer Mr. Rester would be a member of the hoard oi equalization and several other important boards iu control of state affairs. It would be of material benefit to be represented directly by a man from our own county whose knowledge oi local affairs would enable him to guard our interests in a very vital func tion of state government. Mr. Resteras practical business train ing and wide knowledge of condi tions prevailing in this section of the state will make him a very valuable officer on these boards. Nez Perce republicans have a duty tomorrow in polling the vote that is to make this county the banner republican county of the state. Get out the vote. It will take active, earnest work to poll the vote as registered, but with that vote polled the republicans have a victory. A vote for Bryan tomorrow is a vote to scuttle and shipwreck our growing trade in the Orient. Wtll the people of Idaho be so blind to their own interests to de stroy the markets that under present conditions will be built up for the products of the state. There is not a man or woman on the republican state or county tickets that is not worthy of the support of every loyal republican in Nez Perce county. Let the victory be complete from precinct to president. NOTICE. The Prescription Drug store is now lo cated at the place formerly occupied by the Fashion.
