Steps Being Taken Tor Its Location West of Town. A meeting was held Tuesday evening under the auspices of the Business Mens Asaoeiatlon, at which time the railroad situation was quite generally discussed. It i* quite generally understood that the railroad company prefer the site on west main street, and to this end a committee consisting of It. !.. pence, W. A. Peters, W. A. Ileiss, FM. Gill and F. K. Eichel larger wore appointed to solicit the parlies owning land in that section. !•. K. Evans, who owns most of the land on which it is desired to locate the depot, in a letter makes a liberal oiler of 4 acres of land for this purpose, with offer t< $160,110 yer acre, nates 1 pai res, which leaves a balance an •II what balance is needed al A, M. Store also do of about 4 aeres to lie provided. This will necessitate the raising of about $600, and it is the desire of the committee to realize this amount from the landowners in that vicinity, and it is not thought that this will require much labor, as several have made proffers of financial aid, realizing that profierly values would lie enhanced by reason of such location. Messrs. Evans and Storz have certainly shown a very liberal spirit, which is highly appreciated, ft is desired to have this matter cleaned up within a few days that it may be presented to Chief Engi neer Stradley, who is now at Twin Falls, for approval. As soon as matters are adjusted tlie company will lose no time in commencing work. Should tlie location west of town be assured, tlie business men and citizen* will at once take step* to put the road leading thereto in first-class condition, and build sidewalks forllie of passengers going and coming. The company have definitely located a accomodation station at Oop|stale. The surfacing gang are close on the heels of tlie track laying crew, and it will not lie many days lie fore tlie last spike is driven. There will lie no delay in inaugurating train service as wsin as tlie connection is made east of town. Every man owes his family tlie protec tion of a gisxl l.ife Insurance |>oliry. Tlie Sunday previous she had Is-eti re moved from tlie hospital at Twin Falls to tlie home of lier parents, all hope for iter having been abandoned by the phy sicians. Catherine Johanna Arps was horn at Amsterdam, Holland, in February, 1HP2. Coming to America with lier parent*, she became a resident of Jerome in Septem ber, I «I St, where sbe ha* since reside«!. She was an accomplished musician, and was tlie organist and a mendier of the choir of tlie Presbyterian church, until sickness prevented lier attendance. She was also a teacher in tlie Sunday School, and was loved and respected iiy ail who knew lier. The funeral was held here Saturday afternoon, Kev. Kotfend offici ating. Her Sunday School class of girls attended in a body, and (lie remains were followed lo Iheir last resting place by many sorrowing friends. The de ceased was a member of the bwal lodge of the Women of Woodcraft. Mr. Geo. W. Fuller of New York City has been a Jerome visitor the past week. Mr. Fuller is president of the DeVoe Orchards ami Stock Farms Co., who have 860 a« rcs five mites north of town, 800 acres of which are in cultivation. Mr. Fuller lias made several visit* to tlie tract, but tlie present one lias given him more satisfaction than all tlie others combined, as he can now witness results that have been so eagerly looked forward to by all. Attendant. Owner, arrr busy. Now is an Opportune Time for a Publicity Campaign. With the advent of the main line of lie Oregon Short Une reaching Jerome, it would seem incumbent upon onr bus iness men and citizens generally to take some action that would tend toward a publicity campaign, by which the re sources of Jerome and the surrounding country could liecome generally known throughout the more thickly populated communities east of ns. Ottr neighboring towns along the new line are awakening to a realization of the fact that tile general home seeker as well as tlie capitalist are seeking homes and investments in localities which present the most favorable inducements, and are taking steps to projierly bring these mat aers before this class of people. Endeavoring to build up a new country without advertising, is like a merchant trying to do business without telling the general public what lie has to offer them. Hardly a town in Southern Idaho but w hat is heralding its inducements to the world in one form or another. People are going where they are invited, and even though we have superior advan tages to offer over many sections, it will not do to sit idly down and say to our selves, "the people will come here, any way." The conditions existing in the drought stricken districts of the east are such as to warrant the prediction that there will lx- a large exodus of home seekers from those sections the coming fall and the following spring, and the natural tend ency of those people will lie toward the irrigated sections, where, with plenty of water, crops are assured each year. The Gooding papers of last week lead a lecture to the real ««late men of that town for their apparent apathy to sur rounding conditions, urging mon* active work on their part. We have no such complaint against our real estate dealers, and though they are making no great noise about it, the advantages of Jerome are not lost sight of for a moment. But the real estate men should not lie ex fieeted to do it all, and some concerted action should lx* taken by all our citizens with the end in view that all the world may tie informed of w hat we have to otter them. The C'ommercial*Club has done effective work in the past, but they should not Is* expected to carry all the burdens, and they should have the hearty support of our business men generally lei all gel together and push for a great er Jerome. Such a movement wouli reivive not only the hearty sunixirt of our citizens generaly, hut would lie wel comed by the publicity departments of the railroads and others who an' inter ested in building up Southern Idaho, who would render much assistance to the movement. ■ For Sale or Trade.
