I Dekdsviux, Isn., Jr\K, 29th, 1911. Editor Lincoln Co. Times. Perhaps some of my friends in Lin coln county, Idaho, might be interested in a short missive from me while away from Sunny Soutliem Idaho. While I am reveling in the shade of the beautiful trees, watching the com grow, and the harvesters cutting the golden grain, you are cutting the alfalfa and having bright sunshine. I have also witnessed several haul thunder and lightning storms, together with much water from the clouds, not old Snake River from which we get water supply. For a month it has been my privilege to visit scenes and localities in Miami county Ind., with which I was familiar in my childhood days. The country has materially changed, yet there remain some old landmarks which remind me of bygone days. In taking a drive over the country with my sister, Mrs. W. I. Leffel, we passed, among other interesting objects, the old school house on Weesaw creek, where I used to attend school, and the hill I used to slide down on a board in the winter. Owing to the centralization of the public schools this school house is no longer used. Its portal is closed, and never more will boys and girls romp on the playgrounds nearby. Ojd School House, although abandoned, still stands, "Like a ragged beggar sun ning.'' I stood by the grave of my lather and mother, who came to their deaths by stroke of lightning, June 20th, I860, leaving me an orphan with two sisters older and one younger than myself. The resting place of my parents is marked by a modest shaft in the Ebenezer M. E. Cemetery. My trip to Indiana has brought back many pleasant memories, and my visit with relatives and friends has been very pleasant. I leave the scenes of my child hood with a feeling of regret, yet after a few weeks visit with my sister in Kansas, 1 will be glad to return to the lonely bachelor on the Acorns Ranch. Mrs. F. A. Oakes. We might add that in a letter to her husband, after reaching Kansas, Mrs. Oakes states that everything is entirely ruined there, and not even a potato be had. She states that the heat is al most unbearable, and she is anxious to return to Idaho, where water is plentiful and the climate unexcelled. our Yes, the I can EXCURSIONS EAST Via Oregon Short Line--Union Pacific. The village trustees met in regular ses sion July 5th. The resignation of C. F. Annett as clerk was received and on motion accepted, and F. J Rupp was elected to the position. The report of the treasurer, which appeared last week, was read. On motion the sum of $80 was donated to the Fire depart ment as an appreciation of their services to the town. In explanation it might be said that as the new road law does not ex empt firemen from road tax, this sum will be devoted to this purpose. An itemized bill was presented by the Independent School district, amounting to something over $1000, as the amount claimed by the school district as its share of the fines collected by the town since its organization. On motion the bill referred to a committee tor consideration. Drafts of ordinances from the Jerome Water Co., the Great Shoshone & Twin Falls Water Power Co. and the Southern Idaho Telephone Co. respectively, asking for franchisee from the town, were pres ented, and on motion referred to the ordinance and franchise committee. The sidewalk question was again taken up but no definite action taken. n as PACIFIC COAST EXCURSIONS. Via Oregon Short Line.
