Mr Cooper's bid for building the road was something like $38,000. If Governor Morrison compels him to build the road around the way he now proposes at a cost of $30,000 additional, the func would be shy about $18,000. Mr. Cooper warns to know where this amount is Coming from before he goes ahead with the work this spring. It is un derstood to be the intention of the to attach this to a defl governor ciency bill, and ask the next legis lature to appropriate the amount. But a legislature is an uncertain quantity and Mr. Cooper is too good a business man to take any such chances, in stubt. He wants to see the money When seen this morning Mr. Cooper would have but very little to say on the subject further than that he expressed the opinion that the governor would not insist on the pro posed change in the route. "The trouble is," said he, "John esse, the superintendent, has the of the governor, and he wants it to go around by the east fork of the Salmon and Johnson creek, have never yet explained the situa tion to the governor, but when we do I think he will approve of the If the change is ear We original route, made you will bear a mighty protest from the mine-owners in Thun It will not only go up der Mountain, make the distance about 15 miles longer, but will cost them consider able more to get their freight in on account of the extra haul lion to thia it will be impossible to In addi complete the road this season if the road is built around by the longer route. The mine-owners w«e greatly disappointed because the road was not completed last year, and now to delay it another year they will sim ply rise up en masse and put up a fight. In fact they would probably serve an injunction on us. When they donated $20,000, it was with the understanding that it was to be built by the shortest and most feas ible route, just as the bill stated. "The way it looks now it will be impossible to resume work before the middle of June and as it is a hard road to build it would be im possible to complete it this season. Men who are familiar with the route which the governor now proposes to have us take, say that the territory is subject to snow slides long into the summer and that it would not only be a dangerous route to travel, but one on which there would be frequent interruptions. "I am in hopes the governor will see the other side of the question, and 1 believe be will when be bears from us and the people of Roose velt." Robbed the Grave. A startling incident is narrated by John Oliver of Philadelphia, as fol lows; "I was in an awful condition. My skin was almost yelldYv, eyes sunken, tongue coated, pain contin ually in back and sides, no appetite, growing weaker day by day. Three physicians had given me up. Then 1 was advised to use Electric Bitters; to my great joy, the first bottle made a decided improvement. I continued their use for three weeks, and am now a well man.
