An English author, now both rich and
famous, tells how he first earned his flis
sixpence. Ills father had been for twenty
seven years engaged In a suit in Chancery
and had just gained his cause. Tha ex
penses of the suit, however, had swallowed
up the entire estate, the residue being

publisher recolved a letter calling his at
tention to an error In a certain line on a

"For Ave months of the year the Si
berian man of fashion lives lu the open
air, either at tho mining camp or in
the hunting Held," says Thomrts O. Al
ien, Jr., writing of "Fashionable Life
in Siberia. He is an early bird under
all circumstances, and invariably ris-'s
between seven and eight. o'clock, al
though he may have had but a couple
of ours' rest. Nearly every meal is suc
ceeded by a nap. However, dressing
operations do not take very long, for
when ho retires tho Siberian only di
verts himself of his coat and boots.
Shirts are unknown in Siberia, and In
many houses bods, also. The samovar
is set on the dining-room table at eight
a. in., together with eggs, black and
white bread, sardines, Jam and calves,
etc. Breakfast Is eaten and washed
down by live or six glasses of tea stir
red up with sugar, cream and some
times .jam. At one o'clock dinner is
served, and at five lu the afternoon an
other small meal, much like that of the
morning, is taken. A moat supper fol
lows at nine o'clock.
