The railroads of Tennessee have inaugurated a movement, which, if pursued with their usual vigor in such matters, will accomplish un told good results for the State. In an interview in the Memphis Commercial Appeal with Col. llob ert Gates, who represents the Lou isville and Nashville and the Nash ville, Chattanooga and St. Louis llailroads, the fact is developed that extra efforts are being made to lo cate new industries and desirable immigrants in Tennessee. Colonel Gates says tho inspira tion of the movement was the suc cess of the Tennessee Centennial, and the plans adopted are broad in their scope. Colonel Gates is in the field actively at work, and he is meeting with hearty co-operation from other railroads and from com mercial and industrial organizations all over tho State. Any plans looking to the devel opment of the State's material in terest should receive the encour agement of every Tennessean who desires to see his State progress as it deserves. Tennessee, the richest and fairest commonwealth in the Southland, must advance to the top of the ladder of progress, and tho present movement promises great things for. the State, both in effect and results.
