During the past week a number of counties have instructed dele gates to tho gubernatorial conven tion. The instructed votes for the candidates as they now stand are: McMillin, OCS; Bond, 13G; Taylor, 02; Woodard, 101. Mrs. O. P. Lashleo and sister, Miss Alice Barnes, wero thrown out of their buggy which turned over while driving ednesday and Mrs. Lashleo sustained injuries on her head and arms, but they will hard ly result seriously. Miss Barnes received painful but slight injuries. Yesterday's dispatches announce that Judge Bond and Judge Taylor have withdrawn from the contest for governor. No reasons for this action is assigned, and the with drawal of Judge Bond comes in the nature of a surprise. Under pres ent conditions tho nomination of Hon. Benton McMillin is assured. Mr. G. II. Cuff, of Way, left with us Monday a branch from a peach tree on his place, that has attracted a great deal of attention here. It is not only loaded with a vigorous growth of fruit, but as may as five peaches developed from one bloom, three being tho average. Mr. Cuff does not know the, variety of this fruit, and we will appreciate any information from fruit growers on the subject. A Wa verly special to the Ameri can yesterday says : Wash Beavers was killed near Waverly last night by Tom Burnham. It seems that Beavers went to the residence of Buruhcm's father aud demanded permission to stay all night. On being refused Beavers made several threats, aud Burnham, becoming exasperated, fired a load of bird shot into his breast, killing him al most instantly. Beavers lived at Clydoton. The company will receive several recruits from here to-day and to-morrow, and Captain Lnter passed through here yesterday with !S recruits from Fulton. Rev. G. -O. Bachman, of Nash ville, general secretary of the State Sundry School Association, spent Tuesday in our mid.it in the inter est of the general Sunday school work of the cor.nl y. In the evening he addressed an audience at the Methodist Church, and after an impressivo scripture lesson, in which he pointed out the importance of this work, a-sd ex plained the methods by which it is accomplished, a committee of five was appointed to arrange for a coun ty convention, consisting of F. E. McElyea, V. E. McRacRev. C. S. Brandon, W. S. Corbitt and Rev. L. C. Dosha. This committee will at once com pile a directory of all the Sunday schools of the county and arrange for a convention of Sunday school workers, at which an association will bo formed. This county association will bo an auxiliary to the State Sunday School Association, and is interde nominational in character. Tho work of the association will bo to organize Sunday schools, help weak schools, hold conventions and in every way possible strengthen the hands of Suuday school work ers, and stimulate the work within tho county. Superintendents of Sunday schools will confer a favor if they will send their names and addresses to the chairman, F. E. McElyea. .
