AV ADM-We are authorized to announce lion. V. W. Wadk of Gibson. County as a candidate for re-election to the offlce of Attorney-General .u.mmci composed oi the counties of Hen- ion, carroll, Crockett. Clbson. Ilavwood and Henry. Subject to the action of the Democratic J'.uiy. CHANCELLOR A. G. HAWKINS. Carroll County Democrat, May 17. Chancellor A. G. Hawkins of this place will be n candidate for re election to the chancellorship of this division and, we understand, will booh formally announce him self through the newspapers of the district. This district was consid erably enlarged by the legislature of 1899 and is now composed of the following counties: Benton, Car roll, Chester, Crookett, Decatur, Hardeman, Hardin, Henderson, llenry, Madison, McNairy and Terry, which is an addition of four couuties. This makes the district a very large one, and the duties of the office more important as well as more laborious. To do the work of a division composed of so many counties and of the amount of liti gation that will naturally accrue, and do it too, in, such a way that litigants will not suffer, will, it seems to us, require a chancellor of ability and much experience. Chancellor Hawkins has the ability in a marked degree, the record he has made on the bench heretofore is proof sufficient of this fact, and has had sufficient experience to jus tify the belief that he will dispatch the increased business of the court with justice and fairness to all, and with much more satisfaction than could a chancellor with less experience. Chancellor Hawkins has made a splendid record for fair and courte ous treatment of the bar as well as of the litigants, and his deport ment, while on the bench as well as off of it, has been that which should characterize the life of a man holding so important a posi tion. He is a moral, hightoned, christian gentleman, and stands for good government and upright liv ing. ' While we are not in touch with the sentiment and feeling of the entire district, yet the information we have indicates that his qualifi cations and fitness for the office are so well recognized and appreciated that he will hardly have any serious opposition in securing the nomina tion and in his election, and show ing him the preference, we feel sat isfied the people will make no mis take. ' Judge A. M. Marr was in Cam den and Huntingdon this week on professional business. Faris Post In tell igency. "We understand Judge Marr is being solicited to make the race for attorney-general, but we are not advised as to what his intentions arj in the matter. He is a most excellent gentleman, and is well qualified for the place, HON. W. W. WADE. Hon. W. W. Wade of Trenton nuikt'H forma! announcement in Tin: Ciiito.NlCLK this week of his candi dacy for the ofiico of attornoy-gfn- eral in tho new judicial circuit known as tho thirteenth. By an act of tho general assembly of 1899 this district was chanced and ia now composed of th counties of Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Gibson, Haywood and Henry. General Wade is closing his first term as attorney-general of his old district, and ho has made a splendid record as an officer. He lias shown mark ed ability and fitness for the dis charge of his duties, and his friends feel that ho is entitled to the en dorsement of a re-election, accord ing to Democratic usage. General Wade is a man of great energy, in dustry, and is conscientious in the discharge of his official duties, and he has had sufficient experience to justify the claims of his friends that he will make a fair, faithful and efficient attorney-general. He is a hightoued gentleman, and we take pleasure in commending his claims to you for careful consider ation.
