Walden nale was arrested by Sheriff Smith on the train near Knoxville last week. The sheriff was taking an in sane patient to Knoxville when Hale entered the train. He was brought back to Jonesboro jail. Extending to Market Street. II. W. Pardue has decided to extend his store room to Market street and be gan work upon the new portion Mon day. This will give him a store room 25x165 feet and it will be needed to take care of his rapidly increasing business. Santa Claus Letters. Old Santa Claus wants to hear from the children of Johnson City and has asked The Comet to publish the letters from the little folks. All arrangements have about been completed for putting the Embreeville furnace in blast. The ore-washers have been started and a large supply is be ing prepared. Buck Lumber company began the construction of a sidetrack through its new lumber yard Monday morning. The ties are being delivered and track lay ing will begin at once. Enclosing Park. When the Carnegie Land Company laid out its addition to Johnson City about 1889 it gave block No. 42 to ti e city for a park, but no steps were taken to improve it. J ue city is now enclos ing the block and will make a plat of it and plant shade trees aud shubbery. Later walks will be laid out and it will be otherwise beautified. Working at Home. LodM of Sorrow. Tho Johnson City Lodge of Benevo lent and Protective Order of Elks will hold its annual lodgeof sorrow on Sun day afternoon at Elks' hall at 2 o'clock. It will be a public occasion and several fmudred invitafions have been issued. An appropriate program has been pre pared that iucludes some of the best talent in tho city.
