Fooled His Honor
Yesterday F. C, Sims called on City
Judge Brown to perform a marriage
ceremony for a couple waiting in "the
county judge's office. The justice gave
his head a swipe with an old whisp
broom, gave a tug at his. tie and with
his best smile went in to perform the
cheerful task. All went off without a
hitch. The only thing that was the least
out of the ordinary was the fact that
the contracting parties nodded their
heads instead of making oral responses,
but as that was the first time they
were married, the judga thought that
was due to embarrassment. Later,
however, he learned that not a word of
his especially prepared ceremony was
heard by either since both were deaf
and dumb. Unknown to judge Brown
Mr. Sims was standing behind him
giving him the sign to the couple at the
proper time and in that way made the
marriage a successful affair. Judge
Brown was a trifle" disappointed to know
that his eloquence and good 'advice had
not been heard, for he prides himself
on being an expert welder of hearts
and his lecture is guaranteed to make
the union divorce proof.
The above was clipped from an Ada,
Okla., paper. The Judge Brown refer
red to is Henry Brown, who formerly
made Cookeville his home.
