THEIR ROYAL NIBS That Morgan, RocKefeller and other trust magnates consider themselves too sacred to be prosecuted for violating the law has been known for some time. cut that they considered themselves too sacred to be even investigated was not known until the Stanley investigating com mittee ' was politely asked by the steel trust attorneys to please abandon its inquiry because of the Wickersham suit to dissolve the trust. - ; Should the request be gratified it would mean that the Wickersham suit is a Godsend to the trust, inasmuch as it sidetracks an honest and searching investigation of a monopoly that Attorney General Wickersham himselt claims to be illegal. That the trust fears a continuation of the investigation by a committee that is not packed with special interest servers, more than it does a suit 1 3 dissolve" conducted by art attorney general who was a former trust attorney, has been known for some time. Thanks to a Democratic jnajority bn the Stanjey committee, the investigation will proceed. But wishing to be entirely fair to all concerned, the committee has discontin ued public hearings until a full committee can pass on the proposition. It is already known that the committee favors a contiua tion of the probe. On Monday of this week another special meeting of the Board was called, and Supt. Collier stated that he could not run the light plant more than a few days longer unless soiriething was done immediately to increase the water supply. The board there upon authorized the mayor and recorder to take steps to furnish sufficient water, and by that action away will go several hundred dollars of the peoples' money. This action was taken over the protest of alderman Wirt. For seven years the well at the power" house has furnished enough water for all purposes except during the dry spell in sum mer, and it is remarkable that just at this time, immediately after the failure of the bond question, theVell should suddenly re fuse to give iip its usual supply. ; ' The Ierald will have Jnore to say about this question Jfrom time to time. Meanwhile watch your money go into piddling make shifts of ah uncalled for character. E. L. Wirt, editor Putnam County Herald, has annoui ced that he will be a candidate to represent Putnam County in the lower house of, the next General Assembly of the Tennessee Legislature. We beleive that Mr. Wirt is entitled to the honor, should he be able to find any honor in that position. He being editor of a county paper in the county which he seeks to represent, should eminent ly fit him for that position and give him great pretage in the race.
