Barnes made glad his friends this week by presenting his , portly form on our streets. G. W. Wilmeth was in Monday and entered a new subspription for his sister, Mrs. Abbie Hurley. Garfield King went with J. W. rather to Morris Chapel Sunday to the Sunday School convention. ; Mrs. J. T. Bagby and babe, of Obion, came Wednesday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stead- man. Anderson Henry sent Monday his annual contribution to religious liter ature which he has been sending for eleven years. Anderson Moore, of Decatur, Tex as, returned to his native county Sat urday.. He says McNairy for him, and that he intends to return with his family. As the guests of Mrs. Judge Aber- nathy, Miss Verda Castleberry of this cojnty and Miss Lou Wardlow of Montgomery, La., honored us with a call Monday. ' Jno. T. Warren, Sr. J. W. Prather reports a fine Sun day School , convention at ' Morris Chapel Sunday. We had intended to accompany Mr. Prather, but a case of sudden illness prevented. The next convention for the 4th district will be at Crumps Landing. Dr. and Mrs. Wickwire attended the trial of Jim Bolin before Esq. Carothers Friday. The Doctor can be relied on when it comes to enforc ing the tick law, and he has the hearty support of all who are not kickers on the law. G. D. Maness slipped a "plunk" in our hand on the street Monday. We knew what it was 'for, and in enter ing credit, found he has the best record on our books; a first issue subscriber with a year in advance. It is a pleasure to have such subscrib ers. . The protracted meeting this week at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. J. H. Turner, of Corinth, began Sunday and will continue indefinitely. Good congregations at nicht and able sermons characterize the sei vices. But little outward interest is so far manifested, but much good is expected. The play of "Birds Island" by home talent last Thursday night at College Hall was a pronounced success. The merit of theplay was rewarded by a large . and appreciative audience. The play was put on the boards at Adamsville Tuesday night by ,. the same company. The play is quite catchy and all the actors did their parts in good style. The honor conferred on L. S. Per kins in being selected as one of the members of the National Advisory Council 'of the World's Permanent Exposition at Washington, D. C, shows the estimation in which he is held by the nation's greatest minds in promoting this the greatest and permanent exposition of the world. McNairy county may feel proud of this distinction coming to one of her sons. . , R. E. McKinney stopped to spend a day at Sslmer on his, way from Memphis' to Henderson Saturday. He was accompanied by his daugh ter, Miss Jennie May.
