L, Browder, exclusively, adv MONDAY, SEPT. 28 LIVE STOCK DAY BEGINNING OF FAIR PROPER all Railroads-Let's Go THE REASON. A few members of the demo cratic executive Committee of McNairy county at the meeting Monday, voted to remove me from the position I have held as a member of said committee from the 6th district, and also from the position of Senatorial Committeeman that somebody thought I held. - ' In regard to such action, I de sire to say that I am not in the least disturbed nor concerned,. this gang having read me out of the party so often that the oper ation has become absolutely pain less. The reason given for this action was that I had voted for republicons, and was on too inti mate terms with republicans and independent democrats; that by my political conduct, I had for feited my rights to hold further i converse or communication with j the democratic elect. But this is not the reason. The real cause is deep-seated and qf long standing, and this action taken here Monday was inspired by a little gang of so-called dem oc.ats, who have been scratching democratic nominees and voting for republicans when it suited them ; from W. J. Stanton, dem ocratic nominee for representa tive in 1906, including the la mented and beloved Bullock for Chancellor in 1910, to myself in my last race for representative in 1912. This gang votes straight when it suits them to do so. They will also vote for any republican when it suits them or will pro mote their interests. They- went into a primary two years ago to defeat me at any cost and in any way. Failing in their effort to do this, they marched up in solid phalanx in the November elec tion and took another whack at me, and voted for a republican. Republicans are all right if "they are with them: they are all wrong and going hellward, if they are not for them. The real reason for their past and present frame of mind towards me, is that this gang failed to control me then years ago in an effort to re-district this county so as to cut down republican membership in the County Court, and to make the Dortch Law apply to various republican districts in this coun ty, going so far as to prepare the bill, and send it to me, not with a request to pass the same, but demanding that I do' it. About the same time, this same gang of self-constituted leaders, wrote me, and I have their letters, demanding that I Sunday, Sept. 27 Sacred Concert by Scotch Highlander Band pass the Stock Law, regardless of the wishes of the people. I positively refused to do that un til the question was submitted to the people. That was my posi tion then, and I have not changed in that position. I knew the 'peo ple were not expecting legisla tion on that question at the time, and to have passed it without the consent of a majority would have been an outrage. Then it was that I was threatened with political destruction. Since then this same gang, have been my uncompromising and implacable personal and political enemies. Other matters could be mention ed connected with these and oth er demands, and coming ail through all these years that in tensified the feeling against me. But I shall not enter into a dis cussion of them now. . . Tf I had gone ahead and pass ed the Dortch Law according to their demands, thereby disfran chising the poor and uneducated voters of McNairy county; if I had run the Stock Law over the people without their ever having an opportunity to express . their will; if I had refused to go to the relief of the "people in 1908 to test the Stock Law passed in 1907 without their consent; if I had permitted them to dictate to me what I should do in my ca pacity as representative of the whole people; if I had crawled upon my belly and begged them for their influence: if I b.d been their political parrot, speaking only the words they had trained me to speak; if I had been their little puppet to fawn at their feet; if I had been their hewer of wood and drawer of water; if I had supported every whisky soaked candidate running in the name of democracy , and endors ed every pro-liquor platform and candidate; if I had stultified my self in aiding and abetting in the passage of a dishonest election law. in other words, if I had sur rendered my manhodd, and made them the keepers of my con science, and been for them their political galley slave, I would to day be in good standing and in full fellowship with them. I challenge the right of this little gang to pass upon my cre dentials as a democrat, or to read me out of the democratic party. I shall not attempt to re possess the position, nor shall I appeal from the action of tbs gang, except to the tribunal of the people, who have honored and trusted me in the past I shall continue to associate B B with republicans, and when it suits me, shall vote for them. I have been with them hqart and soul in the great fight they and thousands of good democrats have been waging in Tennessee for . the last five years, and I am imbued wih too much of the spirit of the true soldier to de: sert the cause in this crucial hour. I stand upon my record as a citizen, lawyer and public ser vant, and in submitting this record to the people .of McNairy county, who are honest and who believe in fair play, regardless of politics, I am not afraid of their' judgment.
