Ex. Pres. Huerta is now on
front page. He has been arrested
on Texas border on a charge of
conspiring against a friendly gov
ernment. Good Joke Friendship.
, We have read the Nashville
rascality as shown by bill and ans
wer and have to say it shows a
condition of things that might be
expected when rotten politicians
hold offices The Commercial
Appeal's Monday report on cotton
shows it generally is doing fairly
well From present indications
babies will be men when the war
ends ... The days are hot and
the nights cool, or rather cold
Big meetings will be on in full
blast by the middle of July
Russia is not the only govern
ment that found her armies went
backwards easier than forwards.
That patiant waiting is
rather monotonous, but it is the
best we could do... Tomatoes
are now on the home market
Louis Adams had the first of the
season in his garden last week....

Selmer D. R. Hurst was a
caller Monday and imparted to
us a small portion of his wisdom.
.......The papers were withdrawn
Monday against the preacher
who was arrested last week south
of here. It was a regular fiasco
and some of the parties who tried
to mob him should be prosecuted.
Alexander Bros, are putting
on a new tinge to J. R. Richard
son's residence The west
where the wheat crop grows rains
have done much damage. We
could use some of the surplus wet
in these parts... .....Selmer is the
best regulated high moral
church-going people in the State.
..The unprecedented rains in
the west, north and south are
doing more damage than the
drouth is for us. It will come
here all in a bunch The Presi-
dent is taking a ten day's rest in
the mountains playing with those
two little grand-kids.... Clem
Lea's meadow near the north
bridge shows that herds grass,
timothy and red clover are the
things for hay Only one theme
inNashville and that a big one.
A recall of all the city officers is
now on foot..... This issue we go
iuto our fourteenth year. , Good
time to quit borrowing and sub
scribe for the paper All the
congressmen are snapping tt
Luke but he goes on sawing his
little pile.,. Blackberries and
plums come next to watermelons
when a lazy negro wants a soft
snap Land buyers are here
every week, but closing up deals
are a little slow. But it takes
time and patience to put many
things through in this life.
Why not Huerta go on into Mex
ico. He could not make things
worse and might get himself
killed oft The war news reads
about the same, only the Ger
minsieem to be making some
p rgre ji against the Russians
Bryan is enjoying good heakb,
notwithstanding he he has been
politically dead ten days
Thaw, according to prominent
alienists, is sane enough to be
president of Mexico. ..........Hope
those fool Georgians will drop
the Frank case forever. He is
fixed for life and that is a full
dose Game Wednesday be
tween the Selmer and Whiteville
teams resulted in 6 to 1 in favor
of Selmer. Soon our boys can

Svlrner, Tenn., June 22, 1915.
Leaving Memphis An the early train
and the day being an ideal one by the
cool refreshing breeze, the ride was a
very pleasant one, fur June had put
her glorious touch on woods and field,
and above all was a canopy of smiling
soft blue sky. melting into billows of
snowy white.
The last time I passed ever this
road winter had laid her desolate hand,
the birds were gone, the breeze had a
pathetic under tone, the trees bare of
leaf, and the ground hidden by its
covering of withered leaves. I thought
of the contrast now, when nature
under a different touch, had bloomed
and blossomed into a smiling and joy
ous scene, a scene to please the eye
and gladden the heart. I noticed es
pecially several groves of trees whose
shadowy depths looked cool and invit
ing, and restful after the noise of the
city streets. The birds, who seemed
to be the sole occupants, revelled in
their utter freedom, chirped their
cheery tunes, calling to each other to
share in the joys of their happy little
world. The crops, especially corn,
all looked well, it seemed to me the
best I ever saw through that country,
which is none of the richest, and the
gardens were fine, promising an abun
dant supply of good things to eat
tbiough the summer.
When we reached Pocahontas the
same ancient cedars were there stand
ing guard in their never failing uni
forms of green, to welcome the train,
which they have done so faithfully all
these years.
Leaving Corinth on 3:35 train 1
still enjoyed the influence of the lovely
June day, the trees, especially the
pretty graceful willows bent with
protecting care over the little stream?,
hiding the places where the fish play
hide and seek, gurgling with delight
when they Blip from the ever dread
ed hook.
I attended Children's Day on Sun
day at the Presbyterian church and
was most pleasantly entertained, the
children all doing themselves credit,
as well as the ones who trained them
The church was prettily decorated
with flowers, the odor from a bunch
of cape jessamines making the air de
lightful, and bringing up many pleas
ant memories of the past to me. Bro
Ralston made a sensible talk on the
power of habit, which governs our
lives daily and hourly. I smiled with
delight over the little motion song
by four little trts, their little voices
sounding like whisperings from an
unseen world peopled either by ang
els or fairies.
Very truly,
Mrs. M. L. Stainback.
An investment in knowledge always
pays the best interest Franklin.
