Padgett and vv. J. vvhittuorne both of Maury county. Col. Cox has not declared his intention of offering for re election yet, and it is likely hewilluot enter the race. Ought that not entitle them to the blue rib bon aud premium! We have an "Outlaw" school in our Bend, for training children, and get "Cannon" occasionally to try their or her skill. I see that you have a Walker School ou your side, in the Ross neighborhood; a Trotter School at Olive Hill; a "Walking Society" at Faulk; a Wheat(ley) School at Butlers Chapel, which is frequent ly visited by Messrs. T, T. Wat son and Will Becham. Suppose they a.e taking lessons in agricul ture, as they are farmers aud past free school age. Good "Walkers" . when well trained, can advance by going to Ol.ve llit! and train as "Trotters." What about the "Walking Soci ty!" Is it simply for promeuad- ingforis it for literary culture,' such as debating, spelling match es or reading circle! If for these last mentioned, it is quite com mendable for the youug people of that little town. I learn.fi 0111 visitors near Pine (iruve that W, ii. Gill is conduct i .g quite a ttii::es.s:ul school, giv ing entire taiisfactioa, and that bid jschool aud the Olive Hill school will have a ciphering match iu tbe near future, which no doubt will be stimulating and helpful to bolh schools. I will now reply to "Warsaw," or his or her friend, "Behold The Man," which ever it may be. 1 never thought of raising a temp est, or ot tshaduwing the heroibin of the great Gen. Jackson, or tboae braves who fought tbe bat tle of New Orleans under their brave commander but as we are all liable to mistakes, I called at tention to them 60 that we might be benefitted aud avoid them. It is noble when we nuu out our mistakes to correct them. So our Nixon ccrrep i;dent corrected his mitnl;e in tbe date of the an niversary of the battle of New Or leans, and now has corrected bis mistake from statue, which means law, to statute. So Bender owns up bis mistake, iu having "i"in the British commander's name, when it should have beeu I'ackeu hum. Cut still I fail to see how 'he great battle at ew Orleans affected tbe treaty of pence, as ii had already beeu made, aud for lacK tf news facilities, all that horrible bloodshed was done. It may have impressed John Bull afresh tbat Uncle Sain was a dan gtrotis fellow to trifle with. So If "ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." As to laws, sohool books, and the like, have we not a right to call attention to tho failures of our iwmakers, County, State aud Na tioiial. Look at tbe road law now. A short time ago we were taxed to pay for rod implements, now they must be sold for a trifle. A law lately passed to build a $2500 bridge over a little bayou, dry three-fourths of the-year, when there are so many bad fords on large creeks, that are so they can not be crossed many times in the year. And our county just now out ot debt, and then our County Court goes ahead again in a reck less manner with its appropri Htions. Well, what next! Well, once more for all, it seems your illustration ot two hundret dollars fails to illustrate. If I .owed two htiiulre' thousand dol bus mid had paid niue'eeu hniKlitcl vioul.l 1 beg n on next; If a boy is J9 year old Jan. oil) on Jan, Gib. be will tell yon he is iu his 20th ear now, not twenty hut in bis 20th year. If the 19th century closed Deo. 31st. what century began Jan. 1st! Beuder thinks it was the beginning of the zum century, so ueuuer may be regarded ignorant, if so, don't you see it "ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to bo wise. Now dear Courier Cousins, let ns all shake hands aud Uo friendly, and let us , boys uml girls strive 10 make the ' Courier entertaining, instructive, aud helpful to tho readers- and if some of ns make mistakes, and i we are reminded of tliem let uh ! try to do better and, thank the .critic and watch oar history, glttUimttr. aU(1 dictionary a little doser, and see If it does not prove helpful to each.
