Marshall, one of the well known citizens of Number Three, who has accomplished by constant work and sheer persistency the success which usually comes to such men, has been handling stock for a number of years, and from him we learn that his crop of mules is larger this year than ever and that he has about 200 rented to make next year's crop. The busi ness has grown to be very profita ble. Each mule rents for a very reasonable sum, but the cost is al so a considerate item. The convention of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, which was in session from Sunday until Thursday morning, was well at tended and proved very beneficial to those who attended. The ad dresses of Rev. Memminger were enjoyed by everyone, as was also the address of Rev. Padgett, of Chili, South America. The chil dren's services conducted by Mrs. Forrest were a great treat to the older people as well as the children. The brethren leave with the pray ers and well-wishes of many ot our citizens. While en route to Hickman with two colored prisoners charged' with stealing chickens from ludge Naylor at Cayce, the officer was overpowered by about thirty "day riders," who took charge of the negroes, and af ter administering a sound whip ping, ordered them to leave the State within thirty minutes.
