W. Pardue are pleased to know that he is greatly improved. Mr. Pardue has been very sick for several weeks, and the chances are very good now for a speedy recovery. Mrs. Frank Shepard, who has been visiting the home of her brother, Mr. Harris Farks, in the city for a few weeks, left this week to join her hus band in Paducah, thence to return to their home in Caruthersville, Mo. Rev. E. L. Watson, of Memphis, was in the city this week $nd preached to the congregation of the Baptist Church Wednesday night. Rev. Brevard enter tained a number of Confederate veter ans at their delightful home at Bre vard's Crossing Wednesday. Judge Lawson said that it was the greatest day he ever spent in his life and th other guests were also in raptures over the occasion. The dinner was beyond compare and enough for every veteran in the county. Chas. B. Quinn, for many years well known citizen ot Alempins, was recently appointed as Surveyor of Cus toms. Mr. Quinn is a brother of F E. Quinn, this city, and we judge th gentlemen are much alike in saying that no post is too important for them to fill Mr. Fred Quinn is the secretary of the Union City Business Men's Club, and a mighty good one too. He belongs to no clique and the citizens, more of them would do well to get behind him, es pecially the business men.
