Church Bells Ring and Whistles Blow When Vote Announced. Hickman, Ky., Dec. 6. The drys won in to-day's election over the wets by a majority of 8i?G votes, the drys getting 1,547 votes and the wets 6C1. The polls opened at 6 o'clock this morn ing and closed at 4. When the polls opened this morning the church bells began ringiDg and the different bells rang every hour until 12 o'clock, and when it was found at 5:30 this after noon that the county had gone dry the fire whistles blew for several minutes, carrying the tidings to every one, the church bells also riDging. West Hick man school children paraded the streets this morning, singing and distributing dry tags. Prayer service was held from 9 to 12 this morning by ladies. Not a single precinct in the county went wet, the votes tyiDg in West Hickman, with not a single wet vote cast in Madrid Bend district, which came as a thunder bolt, as that precinct was expected to go wet. The grert majority is largely due to the untiring efforts of the ladies of the W. C. T. U., who. have worked for weeks raising money to get good speakers here and making speeches in every precinct. Hickman went dry about 17 years ago,' and this may pos gibly be the last election of this kind that will ever be held here. Church Announcement.
