Death of Caleb Carman. Caleb Hunter Carman, one of the oldest citizens of the county, died at home two and one-half miles north of Union City Monday morning at 4:30 o'clock, Dec. 7, 1914, after a few months illness from decline. Mr. Carman was a little over 90 years of age, born in Smith County, Tenn., Oct. 13, 1824. He was a resident of Obion County for 54 years with the exception of four years residence in Cairo, 111. When a young man he and his brother, Sanders Carman, sold merchandise in Union City as salesmen."" That was the only pursuit ever followed by Mr. Carman outside of farming. He lived on the farm and took care of things at home while his brother was interested iu pub lic affairs, serving at one time as sheriff of the county. Uncle Caleb preferred home life and seldom came to town. He was a man of quiet habits and very punctilious in business matters, the soul of honor. He joined the Methodist Church in Smith County and removed his membership here to Mount Zion, the oldest member of that church. He was a grand old man. During his ill ness and old age he has been taken care of by Mr. and Mrs. Stalcup, who reside on Jthe farm and have been very kind indeed. Deceased was uever married. Services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, con ducted by Revs. Carmen and Butts, and the remains were interred in the family vault.
