Ladies and Gentlemen:. You have doubtless read my nouncement in the county papers as a candidate for Register of Obiorri County, subject to the action of the Democratic party. While "this is the first time in the history of Obion County that va woman has become a candidate for any county office, I feel that the men and women will not think that the county offices should be the special heritages of the men only, since the men of thjs State, and of the whole United . States, have granted the women'the right' to vote and the right to hold office. My friends from various parts of the county, both men and women, have assured me that I am thorough fy qualified to fill the office I seek with efficiency. I have had several years experience in clerical work and I am sure that I can give the people of this county Just as good service as their Register or any of the four gen tlemen who are making the race against me, subject to the action of the Democratic party. ' I am a Democrat, and propose to stand or fall with Democratic party, and to abide in my humble way by the organized action of that party, In a short time I am going to can vass the county in as thorough a manner as I can under-the. circum stances, and I hope to see as many of the Democrats of the county as pos sible, but I am now employed, and of course, can not devote my. whole time to this canvass, as can my opponents, but hope that if I fail to see you in person you will still favor me with your vote on August 6. -1 ' Sincerely, NELLE NICHOLS.
