H. Heiskell in the disbarment proceedings insti tuted against Lanier by his former client, Mrs. Maggie T. Laird. The chancellor exonerated Lanier of the charges of conduct involving moral turpitude and fraud in connect ion with the listing of property on an appeal cost bond filed in a chancery suit, in which Mrs. Laird was seeking an accounting from him. The third cnarge that he had withheld for an unreasonable time money collected for nis caent and given to her by judg ment of the court was gone into by the chancellor at great leneth in a verbal opinion that took over an hour to render.
