Church and Convention Phone 1822 Road Service-Gasoline-Oils Mohawk Tires HYGIENE OF THE HAIR. (Dr. Nellie B. Cooper.) Article 4. Hair being a bodily protection as well as an adornment, its early care is therefore most important to fami lies in which premature alapecia (baldness) and canities (grey) is hereditary. Not only to those of in herited tendencies, is the hygiene of hair and scalp important, but as a prophylactic to various diseases of hair and scalp, also parasitic troubles. Among hygienic measures the use of a suitable shampoo at least once a week should be taken to rid the hair of dust and the skin on the scalp of any foreign matter thus leaving the hair follicles free and ridding the scalp of exfoliated epidemic cells. The hair should be freed of tangles thoroughly wet with soft, warm-Wat er and rubbed thoroughly with a good soap. This should be rinsed off and the soaping and rinsing repeated till the hair and scalp is clean. For excessivey oily scalps tincture of green soap will be found best as it is a strong alkeline soap and drying. For general use Olive Castile soap is best either solid or in fluid form. Where hydrogen peroxide has been used to bleach hair two or three eggs beaten up with a small amount of liquid Castile soap and well washed in and rinsed off with very tepid water followed by a second application will be the best way of caring for hair in a bleached state. Where soft water is not obtainable always give the hair a rinse with a quart of water and the strained juice of several lemons pour ed over the head and rinsed off with clear water this will remove the salts adhering to the shafts of hair left thereon from the reaction or curdle ing between the calcium in the hard water and the alkali in the soap. Af ter the shampoo the hair should be quickly and thoroughly dried. Sun light upon the scalp is one of our most valuable therapeutic agents due to the chemical light rays which are chemical in character, stimulation to cell growth and destructive to bac teria. We know that bacteria in some form are the cause of all physi ological disturbances. The hair should be moved so as to enable the sun rays to reach the skin on the head as it will fade and streak the hair itself if allowed on any portion very long. The hair should be brushed vigor ously and braided at night or left free if preferred. Comb and brushes should be immersed in Borax water for a time and scrubbed with soap and hot water and stood on end in J the sunlight to dry once a week. Lake Charles, at least a week in advance of the convention. Will you do this? The hostess clubs will entertain on Tuetsday afternoon, .1 to 5:20 o'clock, Miss Agnes McComb will be presented at this time. The Fine Arts Luncheon will be served by the hostess clubs at the Country Club. The program will be in charge of Mrs. Harry Gamble, I chairman of Fine Arts Department, assisted by her division chairman of Music, Mrs. D. H. Wilson and of Art, Mrs. A. B. Glenn. The convention program has no key note. In a recent message Mrs. Win ter, who will be our honor guest says s. "Two things this country needs from women-needs pre-eminently while - the world is in turmoil-sane think ing and consecrated action. Sane thinking means that we shall really inform ourselves as to the issues of the (lay, educational, industrial, social, political, and that we shall infuse our knowledge with high idealism along the lines of America's great tradi tions. We shall not be swept away by the confused half-fledged judg ments that prevail today in rqany places. Consecrated action means that we shall not rest content with mere information, but shall regard our knowledge as the preparation for dipping deep into constructive service. We are club women in order that our knowledge and our action shall be in large groups and therefore effect instead of singly and therefore inef fective." This we shall try to make the keynote of our convention. Noted speakers, distinguished guests, a cor dial welcome-come and enjoy with us. HOTEL RATES Rooms with bath, 2 persons, $2.50 each person.
